00:00:00 Speaker 1: You're now diving. I gonna have been that tank who sitting down with Seth living oh Jay, And this is strictly but I'm a true fans number one of course, y'all This and another never sports talk that might have been that pitch tank. Welcome back to the Fish Tank, presented by iHeartRadio right here on the Miami Dolphins podcast Network. It is Seth Levitt and OJ McDuffie and Juice. My favorite holiday of the year is right around the corner. This is a special edition of the Fish Tank. It's the Thanksgiving edition of the Fish Tank. You got some big plans for Thursday. Well, first of all, I gotta I gotta ask you this, big Seth. Why is it your favorite? Big Seth? You know what I mean, because I don't want to be like saying it's obvious, but why is it your favorite? Big set First of all, family, I think of spending time with family. Not that I don't spend time with family all the time, although not enough time. But there's something about getting together with family. You kind of like anything that's going on, any issues, and you put them all aside and you really hopefully people take time to be reflective and be thankful and be thankful for the family that they have and whatever blessings they have in their life. So I love that. And man, oh man, do I love a good Thanksgiving? Yeah? I was about to say that's mine. That's that's my reason, man, little ham, some turkey, and definitely some greens. You know, I'm mac and teese. I mean you sleet potatoes. Come on, man, who's cooking? Chef Juliette cooking? Are we doing licky sticky Thanksgiving? She does? And if anybody has a problem, if they can't find it, he will make it. It's amazing, bro. But yeah, man, Thanksgiving for sure is like the holiday of all holidays man, and more important that you talk about Big Seth time with the family. Yeah, for sure. But we wouldn't be doing a Thanksgiving edition of The Fish Tank if we also didn't have some great memories of Miami Dolphins games that took place on Thanksgiving Day. Because the one word I left out in this country what we love Thanksgiving and we love football on Thanksgiving Day. This is a unique year because we're not actually playing on Thanksgiving Day, but we're playing on the country's second favorite holiday, and that's Black Friday. So we're playing in the first ever Black Friday game in NFL history. Excited to see what the Dolphins do and playing the Jets. But we're gonna refle This is a fish tank. We're gonna reflect, We're gonna look back. We've had some great Thanksgiving Day stories told here in the tank. We have some great memories of some guys who've been in the tank that came back in recently to talk about things. But I want to start with you, o Jim McDuffie. Your rookie year. You not only got to be a first round draft pick, you not only got to have Dan Marino as your quarterback and have these legendary receivers in the room that you got to learn from, but you got to go to Texas Stadium in Dallas to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day. Is that like a dream come true for a rookie in the NFL. It's a dream come true for any football player. Big set we all grew if you're if you're a football player at age four or five, six years old, Thanksgiving dinner or whatever, whenever it was, whenever you have it as a family, the game was just as important watching the Dallas Cowboys. I know, no direspect to Detroit, but the Dallas Cowboys were the team on Thanksgiving that honestly probably became America's team because of that. They everybody watched, everybody ate early watched the game and it probably ate again big Seth. And that was my family growing up. And for me, it's like it was interesting because we only had like three or four stations on our TV growing up, so one of those CBS and that showed Goodness, showed the Dallas Cowboys all the time. That's why I'm a closet Dallas Cowboy fan because of that. I like that you're looking over your Yeah, but if you actually can see the video right now, Juice is looking over his shoulder like you doesn't want anybody to hear that. But you're from Cleveland, you played for the Miami Dolphins. Where does Dallas fit fit on my TV? Bro? It really did, That's the bottom line, except I mean, the Dallas Cowboys played the four o'clock game every Sunday no matter what, or they played Monday night no matter what. And then of course on Thanksgiving man that famous and our favorite holiday. It was always a Dallas Cowboys. I was a huge Tony dor Set fan growing up, so I played running back growing up and Tony Ressett was my guy. So, man, I'm gonna tell you have that opportunity my rookie year because you never know to what the schedule comes out with March or April, and it's sure enough when it comes out and you realize that we're playing on Thanksgiving, and I'm like my rookie year with Dan Marino and all these guys and the Cowboys are playing. Really they're great right now, We've got a great team and I got a chance to play because at Cowboys on Thanksgiving, Bro, it was like a dream come true for me. Big cept I can only imagine. And look, Tony dor Set wasn't on the other sideline, but Emmon Smith was, Troy Aikman was, Michael Irvin was. I mean, those Dallas Cowboys, we know what they went on to do. What do you remember from that game, because it was it was an epic one. Yeah. I remember a lot from that game, honestly, because you think about it, from the beginning. We rolled into that game on a rope. We were we were playing really really really well at that point. I think Our team was eight and two at that point going into that game, and uh, we thought that we were Honestly, we were considered the best team in the league at that point. But we knew Dallas had all that pedigree and they'd already done some big things in the league. I think they won the two Bowl maybe the year before, something like that, or they were close. I know they were. They were great at that point with Emmett and Troy and Michael Irvin, those guys. So we look forward to this matchup. We were stacked, you know, even though we lost Danny earlier in that season, you know, we were still stacked with guys like Friar Buyers, Jackson Ingram I wouldn't even call I wouldn't even party offense at that point. So that tells you how stacked we were, big seth you know. So it was we knew that going to that game that we had something special and we were just looking forward to that matchup against you know, honestly the best team in that If there's any one, well, there's two big moments, and fortunately we talked to the two guys who were involved in those plays, but there's two big moments that stand out to me, that's Keith Byers, that long ass run and the snow Angels in the end zone, and of course the leon Lett play right the block field goal. You think the game's over and leon Lett does what he does for whatever reason, we recover the ball in Pete, so Aliviche gets a second opportunity there to win that game. And we're gonna hear from what both of those guys. We get to look back at what they said in the fish tank before. What better day to do that? Do you have? And it could be one of those memories. But is there any one lasting memory that stands out from this game for you? Well, it's a couple of things. Like you talk about the Keith Byers, Let's talk about a couple of guys. I talked about how my love for the Dallas Cowboys was back then because of you know, Thanksgiving Day. Keith Byers will my favorites of all time because you know, growing up on Ohio Ohio State fan, playing with him and then seeing him bust off that long run, and then I don't know, I mean, we've got some guys coming up later that talk about pre planning celebrations in the end zone, But that celebration was like ideal because we're in Dallas, Texas, except it's not supposed to snow or sleet or whatever the hell it was, you know, and you know, of course, you know, when it comes to Dallas, they open the roof up, they keep it open so God can watch their team play. Quota of quote is what they talk about. But this time God snow is sleeping on it. So we had we had to make an adjustments, you know, coming from Miami, and sure enough Man to bust off that long run and for Keith, one of my favorite players of all time, to do the snow angel, I mean, it was spectacular. And then you got to look at the other side of the ball, Kevin Williams, who played for UM. We were two guys that, you know, the Dolphins were looking at as return guys. They took, you know, we the Dolphins took me, and the Dallas Cowboys took k Dubb k double returned a long punt return. So I'm like, damn, now he's got one up on me in this game. Didn't get an opportunity to do what he did, you know, in that game. So those are two big, big memories, obviously opposite of you know, of whatever happened at the end with leon letting everything, man, But it was such a back and forth and such a fun game than the best atmosphere you can have. And we all know that on Thanksgiving, everybody's watching. Everybody was watching, and everybody remembers Keith fires in that end zone just like you do. Let's hear what Keith remembers from that game. We have to talk about leon Let game Dallas on Thanksgiving. Thank you. Yes, I have to talk about that. First of all, I mean, what a game. Man. We're sitting there, ninety two, best team in the league records at that point, and we're playing against Dallas on Thanksgiving. You said you grew up you know, Browns and Dolphin fan, but we all watched Thanksgiving games. That was the only game the Detroit Lions were gonna watch. The Cowboys lines playing right right? Yeah? And so you break off of seventy seven yards, the longest run in Dolphin history up until a couple of years ago when who was a Miller broke? Lamar mil Lamar Miller broke? What was Yeah? And so I gotta I gotta ask you KB, it's a long run. Now you're running away from people in the snow. Yeah, in the snow or sleep whatever, it's nasty. At what point did you decide you're gonna do a snow angel once you got to the end zone. Well that side at a Thursday morning, Thursday morning, Thursday morning, you know it was I don't even snow, even in the forecast side. I don't think I don't ever being out there. Yeah, and it was the last time it's it snowed on things giving in snow. We didn't think about snow. Well you did well, because I'm all, well Uni from a Higo ends. We all weather players, okay, you know, So I when it was snowing outside, I went back to, you know, my childhood days, because that's what we used to do when it's snowing. Ay, that's down. Was trying to go out and imitate what we see in the NFL. That's gonna play some football in the snow. And so I'm like that this is my moment, the plays from football, you know, in the snow, in the and the worse the weather, the better it is for me, you know. So I loved it. So I had said in my mind, if I score a touchdown to day I'm gonna do a snow I'm gonna do a snow angel. And so when I got that opportunity, you know, to break that seventy seven yard or off into the it got it in the end zone. You know, Irvan Friar was coming to jump on me and I made him. He goes slide waits snow? What again? That was man? How great is it to hear that memory from Keith? I mean, obviously you have that memory, we all have that memory. Really cool to hear from Keith. But he wasn't alone, as I said, and making memorable moments. And of course, who can forget Pete Stanovich. It was an interesting day for Pete, right juice. So he had a kicker. It had to be tough conditions for a kicker, first of all, and he had one that fell short of forty four yarder. He made a couple of field goals and then to try and win this game, he has the forty one yarder and it's blocked. And I don't know about you, I mean, you had to be sick on the sidelines when you saw that, right You guys got to be all hyped up and that's blocked. I know, as a fan what I felt and then all help run. Yeah, man, it was it was tough. Man. You work your your butt off that whole game to stay competitive one of the best teams in the league, and then you get this opportunity. Although like we talked about, the conditions were not ideal for anybody, especially for a kicker. Big set, I mean, you've really got a footing is important for everything, but it's even more important, I think for when it comes to the kicking situation. And so it's little low it got blocked, and of course we know what happened after that. I mean from going from you know, being upset to have another opportunity was special for us. Yeah, and it was certainly special for Pete. Let's hear what he had to say. You know that that that's still probably one of my most memorable moments. Oh Jay. You know, it often gets brought up, especially on Thanksgiving Day, gets brought up and it gets shown a lot. It's one of the most remarkable plays thanks to leon Lett. I mean, it wasn't It wasn't so much the field goal at the end as much as it was leon Lett and leading up to the fieldvial. You know, the circumstances that took place. But I'll you know, I remember, you know, we flew into Dallas on Wednesday, and I remember, you know, it's snowing, and it just was snowing and snowing, and Dallas hadn't seen snow ever, I don't think. I think that might have been the first time it ever snowed there. But then you get up on Thursday and Thanksgiving morning and it was still snowing outside. So it was kind of, you know, it was gonna be kind of weird going out to Texas Stadium, you know, even though they had the tarp on the field for a couple hours prior to the game, once they took that tarp off, the field was covered in snow because it snowed the whole time. So I had problems with my footing obviously out there. I think I missed a couple of kicks and lined up for the game winner there at the end from forty some yards out. Obviously, I just it got blocked. And all Dallas had to do was stay away from it because the field, the ball went down the field, so you just get away from it. But Leon let then come, you know, he wanted I don't know if he wanted to be a hero or if he just didn't know the rules. I think he just wanted to recover the fumble, you know what he thought might have been a free ball or you know, so I don't think he meant to do obviously what he did, but he slipped and fell and his you know, his body, his foot touched the ball and he moved the ball for us became a live ball, and uh, I'm trying to remember who jumped on it. I think it might have been Uh, I think it might have been Dellenbach, one of my offensive linemen. I think was it Jeff. I'm not even sure. There are a bunch of guys trying to get at that slippery pig, right, so it might have been Bert Widener or Jeff Dolby. I can't remember who recovered it. But then there was a you know then you know who got the ball back, and they weren't quite sure where to place the ball for the you know, we had three seconds left to go in the game, and so Doug Peterson was my holder in that game, and Doug and I were We're trying to find the right spot so we can kind of clear off the field a little bit because the field was frozen. You know, at this point it was frozen. There's a lot of snow, and so we cleared off one spot. Then the rough ways moved the ball again, so then we had to clear off another spot, and then he decided to move the ball back again. So there was a lot of confusion on where the ball was actually going to get snapped on to finish the game. So in the end we finally got it. I only got the ball, you know, in the right spot, and you know, it was a short field, those nineteen yards, and you know, I wasn't missing this kick, you know, with the second opportunity. The only the only thing I was really concerned about is my footing because it was a little icy. But I wasn't missing this kick, and you know, I went on to make the kick, and I think at the time, Dallas was rolling We were rolling two at the time, and we were looking to get in the playoffs as well. But unfortunately, I think after that game, I think we ended up losing like the last four or five games that year and got us kicked out of the playoffs and Dallas went on that year to win the rest of their games, and I think they ended up winning the Super Bowl that year they beat Buffalo. I think it was in ninety three. Am I right about that? Ninety five? I don't know. I think they Yeah, yeah, it was ninety three. Week after that game, we never won again and they never lost again. Yeah. Yeah, I think that might have pissed off Jimmy Johnson, which is a whole other story with this guy. I think that when I came to Miami. Man, oh man, you know, it's a little mixed emotions now after hearing that, because it was obviously, as Pete says, is one of the great memories of his entire career. And we fell apart after that. I mean, the team really fell apart. But you can't take away that much. Yeah, yeah, you cannot. You know, that was the last game we won as a last game Dallas lost and they went on to win another Super Bowl. But man, that moment though, Man, on Thanksgiving when I know because as a kid and family, I know that my family was watching, and so I know they were excited to see what we did that day. No matter what, all right, I'm going to dial it back, Juice, because as much as you talked about playing at Dallas. As much as you talked about that Detroit Lions, we can't forget about the Lions. I'm going all the way back to nineteen seventy seven. The Miami Dolphins again were born. Yet I was I was born. Yeah, I was four years old. I can't say I remember the game, but I was four years old. But the Dolphins played the Saint Louis Cardinals, and you know, this was I guess it was one of only two Thanksgiving games in the afternoon, since like the merger and Saint Louis was supposed to be they were supposed to be some monsters. Well, we had Kim bokamper dive into the tank. He talks about that game. What most people remember from that game is Bob Greasy threw six touchdowns. I think Nat caught three of them. You know, so it was one of Bob's greatest games of his career. But things also got a little chippy out there, you know, two with six touchdowns. But you've had a front row seat to a six testdown, the original one, Yeah, the first six testdown game. Tell us about that front row seat. It was way back. I tell you how far back it was. We were playing the Saint Louis Cardinals on Thanksgiving Day. There you go, nineteen seventy seven, and then the Saint Louis Cardinals were a really good football Then Conrad Dobler was on their team, and I think Jim Hart was a quarterback. They were Dan deard Orfards. I think that really good, really good football, and they were on like a five game winning streak, and we weren't expected. We were kind of an up and down team where you know, they were kind of at the end of that seventy two team, you know where they were. You know, we had a couple of there's guys still there and it was kind of changing in the guard and so so we had we think we started four rookies on defense, and uh it was one of them. So the difference between that game with Bob Greasy and this game was with Tua was we rolled over them from the beginning of that game. There was no doubt in that game. And then you know, we were up big early in the and and and it just kept going. We had a bench clearing brawl in the middle of the in the middle of the Thanksgiving Day, right everyone's went home, you know, their Thanksgiving dinner. You know, with all our family, you got a skirmish out in the field and avery and all that, but uh, it was it was a great win for us because no one, no one expected it. But uh uh but but it was different. And then tua is because we were ahead all the time and where we're playing on you know, we're playing on borrowed money. At that point, it big seth. You know, when the game is when you get beat up a little bit like that, things happen sometimes in big games like that, especially like we talked about over and over and over against in our theme, the whole world is watching, so it gets a little tippy of time. But can you imagine the whole world is watching and it's Thanksgiving and they're all giving thanks and saying prayers and eating food, and his family and these guys are out there like just having a broad Yeah, I can't imagine that, you know, Like you said you were if you were four, I was eight, and it was yeah, I don't. I don't remember that whatsoever. But wow, what a game, What a game indeed, But my question is who starts a damn brawl on Thanksgiving Day? Fortunately for us, ajdway had the answer. You clearly had a hell of a rookie year, as JEW said, the NFL defensive Rookie of the Year. A lot of accolades that year. But one of the highlights of that seventy seven season came on Thanksgiving Day and you guys traveled to Saint Louis and just kicked their ass. I think Greasy threw six touchdowns. You guys blow them out fifty five to fourteen. So the defense obviously had a great day as well. But from what I understand, something went down between you and Conrad Dobler, the Pro Bowl guard for the Garden Right. Tell us about that, well, I mean like I like, like I told you about those little boys coming over the house and eating Mom's good food and listen to pop sof stories. I kind of I tell people to this day, I'm the initial trash talker of the NFL. That's what I like to hear. I said, you know, that's the I remember going earlier in that season. We were playing the Patriots and they had John Hannah and Leon Gray, two perennial All Pro guys, and that was in the time when the Dolphins were controlling the AFC East. But you know, We were in a rebuilding season that year, and I go up against them and they're both just tearing my ass, okay, you know, and and and and then Big Leon Gray kind of goes, hey, rook. And it's easy as you thought, right because you know, I going into that game, I had been having good games against you know, everybody I played against, you know, and again, you know, probably trash talking. You know, it wasn't like it is nowadays, you know where you know, I was probably saying things like, hell, I can play this game. You know, I mean, those guys put on their shoes the same way I do or whatever, these things like that. So so then getting going maybe advancing at the five or six weeks ahead towards Thanksgiving. We were playing up on Thanksgiving Day and the sports Riders had written us off. You know, we we we had a decent season, our rookie season, but they had said this is going to be the day that in Saint Louis they're having fish for Thanksgiving. Right, you know, the sports Riders were riding us off, and you know, a lot of a sudden, the team had a little chip on our shoulder because it's not giving us a chance to beat him. Saint Louis at the time, I think was considered the team to beat to make it to the the NFC. You know, back in that you know, they were they might have had a you look at their record. I mean at that time, they may have only had one or two losses, you know, so they were kind of the one of the head. And we went up there and you know, like I said, Greasy had the outstanding day. We were just shutting them down any way possible. We had a big day defensively, and as the game was going on, you know, Dobler would run his mouth, I would run my mouth, and you know, and I was saying things like, you know, because at that time we had five rookies starting on defense, I kind of go and I was kind of going, hey, oh boy, you know, these these kids are whipping all that I mean, you know, and just talking stupid. And it turned it turned ugly. You know. Coach Shula saw it starting to happen. He goes a j he says, you know, let's kind of keep this under control. So you know, the next series we're going. There was pushing and shoving going on, pushing and shoving going on, and finally Shula took me out of the game. Really, he took me out of the game. And he put in a guy named Wally Pursuit who was an offensive guard. But he was while he was while he must have been, you know, on the sideline, begging to go play. So so he gets in the game, and he was he was more crazier than I was. So he gets in there, and uh, and then the brawl. The brawl starts. Okay, I'm not even on the field. Okay, I'm I'm I'm on the sideline. The bench is clear. I'm still on the sideline. So all of a sudden, we come back to work on Tuesday for players Day, and Coach Schula starts reading it. This is this is disgraceful. You know, this is the most fines ever issued by the NFL, you know, on any given day or something like that. So Coach Chila starts going. He starts naming these guys two fifty you know what I mean, Like nowadays, the fire would be like fifteen thousands, right right right, two fifty you two fifty one seventy five. He started naming it. And my name don't get called, And all of a sudden, Larry little goes. What the hell AJ started all this stuff and coaches, but he didn't leave the sideline. There it is, you know, and so that that's kind of a crazy story. But here he's the guy that's made all this stuff happen, and he's on the sideline not paying a dollar. You know, those are all guys out, These guys are all coming. Damnit. Brookie has come out of your pocket somewhere or another. You know, Oh, you can imagine two hundred fifty bucks man, You know that was that was about a half of a game check or something of those guys. It's a lot of money. That's a lot of money, right, It's all relative, right, AJ. Yeah, Well there you have it. AJ is stirring the pot once again. All right, well we're gonna fast forward to one of the more recent games. On Thanksgiving Day back in two thousand and six. We are going to Detroit, right, so you said you didn't want to slight them. We will go to Detroit. And this was an interesting game. It was Nick Sabans the second year of his career, his two year career here with the Dolphins before he wasn't going to be out of the head coach. It was a rough year. The Dolphins started one and six, but they did start to come on. They had a whole thing going on with the quarterback position, and Joey Harrington, who had struggled in Detroit, got an opportunity to go back and face his former team on Thanksgiving Day, and they saw something that they probably had hoped they had seen from Joey when he was wearing a Lion's uniform. But another guy that Joey was throwing the ball to who had a big, big day was Marty Booker. Book had some fond memories of that game that year. That was a crazy year, just put things in perspective. But going into that that was like my second Thanksgiving game one being my rookie year in Chicago, so I kind of knew what to expect going in. I kind of had a feeling that I might score. So it was funny. I'm flipping through the TV and everything, and you know, I'm always looking for something to do for a touchdown celebration and stuff. So I'm flipping through the TV and I and I and I found something. Okay, I score them to do it. It ended up being a Madonna's song. I guess she released an album that year and it was I think the song was hung Up, hung Up on You or something like that. And I was flipping in the song and the video was on and I saw him doing a little thing and everything. I was like, okay, okay, I'm going to do that. So I was like, I scored him to do that. So the first touch down I ended up scoring. It was so much going on that that that game too, it was so much happened. I think first caught along uh uh shall across past, had a big run of it, ended up rolling up Chris. I think he ended up hurting his knee fire friendly fire right there, we call that friendly fire. He was bucket for me though, I hey, I appreciate that. I gave him a lot appreciation. And then it so happened that Uh and the same drive we got down there and that he called the play for me to go across. Uh sit across the middle occupied where a middle linebacker usually sits at. So I ran in that spot. Joey found me and I dove straight in, got the touchdown, and as I'm doing my dance, I'm rolling and you have a picture and everything you can see rendys over here trying to give me the ball and everything. I'm like trying to still try to get him out of the way so I can do my dance and everything, and Red is still trying to like, I don't want the ball. I just threw the ball away, I had it in my hands. I don't want it nothing. I want to dance. So I'm just doing my dance and everything, and he's in a way. But I got a little bit off of it. I don't think people could really see what was going on, but I got a little bit of it off of you know. But it's so interesting that you say that you knew or felt that you'd get a touchdown. Was it something during the week that said, all right, we're gonna book we get down here, or we get here or here we're going. We got these plays that you knew you can get up in because you know, we look at nowadays, and you know, when we look at the stat sheet now, it really doesn't show targets. Now you see targets in a lot of stash sheets. Did you know that you're gonna get that amount of targets or you knew that down there is going to be an opportunity for you to get up in. I just had that surely, you know you you know, you you're going to the week or something, you have a good practice or whatever, and kind of things to start to look up a little bit and it's like, hey, I might have a pretty good game here or whatever. So that would kind of got the juices and got everything flowing too, like, hey this might kind of work out. I might get something going. And I mean seven catches for one hundred and fifteen yards and two touchdowns, you got some stuff. You all got a lot of stuffy, biggest games as a Dolphin, if not the biggest, you know, and that includes that big forty eight yarder that you mentioned, So you had a lot going on there. Book how much how much of your knowledge of Detroit made you and probably hatred being a Chicago guy you want to go out there and put it on them like that. Man, it had to be part of it as well. I mean, you know, I just I just always had good games being back in Chicago. I just always had pretty good games against Detroit, So, you know, going back and it just felt comfortable, just just felt like a usually something I was just been accustomed to, you know, playing Detroit twice a year for those years in Chicago, and then it's like, you know, there's nothing going back up there. That's how we get that it's work in you know, and then usually how it usually works, you know, when you go back to when you're a former a player from a former team or whatever, and you go back to that team you want to So I knew Joey was going back in there with a mentality like, Hey, I'm Finn, show these dudes. So I knew he was looking to kind of slinging around and have some big plays. So I was I just knew the opportunity to be there. I was going to ask you that, So that how much of that? Because Joey at that point, like I said, four or five games in a row he had started, you were on a wind streak. But he really hadn't had great games. You know, his QB rating was kind of in the seventies. Every game might have thrown more interceptions than touchdowns at that point. And then he you know, so did he talk to you guys, did he say anything? Did he you know or could you just see it in his eyes that this was a big game for him. I just just like I said, you go back to your home team and your your team that drafted you and you spent years for. There was a little extra motivation to kind of like stick it to them or whatever to show, hey, you shouldn't have did this, you should have got rid of me and this and that. So there's always that extra little motivation or whatever. I think at that point, I think, shit at quarterback at that time, being in my head, you to lose because the expectations were off the roof, and you know, you know, people started want to see the damn Marino and then they don't get that after a while, and then you start going to quarterbacks and quarterbacks and it's like your quarterback about your quarterback. We covered that the last time you're on this show. Yeah, I go through that list. I think about that list all the time. It's like, damn, that's long ass list. Yeah, I make you know. It was fun. I wouldn't change it for the world. Well, on this day, nothing needed to be changed because you and you helped Joey Harrington have a career day at in that get back game, which you would have to get back game against the Bears earlier that year as well. It was a great season. You guys both had to have those games and it ended up being a big win for the Miami Dolphins twenty seventy ten on Thanksgiving Day. So, man, I love book, But I think my favorite part of that jew is that he felt he was going to score, and because he felt he was going to score, he needed to have an end zone celebration prepared for Thanksgiving Day and he got it from all places A Madonovitu, No, I mean that's so good man. You know, it's it's really funny because you don't think about it. You know, we talked about Keith Byers with a snow angel. But all these guys when they're doing these celebrations, and now we're looking at our current team right now, Big Seth, and they have the best celebrations. So it's been going on for a long time, Big Dog, it has well. Now they get to rehearse them on Fridays. But and they probably can scroll like uh, you know, X or Instagram to get somebody or TikTok you knows, man, no agents all right now, I'm just saying, but I think that's what they got. The TikTok dance. That's probably a great place to get enzone celebrations, but Marty Booker had to get on like MTV and find him a donamit. I think that's hilarious. But I also thought it was kind of interesting that. You know, look, I'm I played for the Bears playing against Detroit like that. I knew I could go out there and play well, So that was that was good. I feel bad for the toy, but that's the way it was back in the day. Well one of I think the only Thanksgiving their game that I got to participate in as a PR guy was in two thousand and three. What a memorable game. I know a lot of the fans that listen to this show now they'll remember that game because that was a team they remembered. Finally, that was the throwback Unis, which we know how our fan base feels about those gorgeous throwback unis. And the Miami Dolphins went into Dallas. It was supposed to be a tall order. But boyle boy, did our boys show up? Yes? They did, man, I mean, I mean Dallas had the number one defense going into that game, and our guys definitely showed up and showed out. And you know, the wideouts always show up, except as you know. I mean that's just normal. The wideouts are always the best players on the field. But we also had a great distribute of the run. I was going to say, I know you got I know you had your Cleveland guy who Chris Chambers had a very big game, but somebody had to throw it to him and give j Fieler credit because he went in there against the number one defense and he showed out. Ah. Man, it's it's a great feeling to go down there. You know, the Dallas Cowboys that year, they were they had the number one offense going into that game. So I'm sorry, number one defense going into that game. So it was supposed to be a big challenge for us. Fortunately, I played in two games in Dallas Stadium, and you know, in Dallas on Thanksgiving one of them. I was a backup for the Minnesota Vikings when Randy Moss went down, and I'm sure everyone remembers that game. He had three receptions for about one hundred and fifty yards and all he was pretty good, and yeah, we just blew blew them up, you know, all over the field. And then you know I went down as a starter in Miami. You know a few year a couple of years later and you know, had one of the best games of my career with three touchdown passes. Chris Chambers, you know, had was was the recipient of those, and you know we both had a fantastic game. But you know, again, I mean we were going into that game. Bill Parcells was the coach number one defense in the NFL, and you know we just came to town and and blew them up. Yeah, so let's talk about going into Dallas. Dave Wantstett. Obviously he has history there, so it had to be a big deal for him. We know, sometimes coach coach wants that could get a little worked up, if you know, dependent on the circumstances that were in front of us number one defense. As you said, what was the game plan? Because we certainly know that Ricky was going to get a lot of carries and he had This is what's funny to me, a quiet thirty one carries for one hundred and forty yards. You know, a quiet day for Ricky, no touchdowns. But you know, talk about what the game plan was, and did you guys see that there were opportunities there for you to make big plays in the passing game. Yeah, that's certainly where you know, we definitely went into that game with a lot of confidence. You know, obviously our running game was was, you know, one of the best in the league with Ricky back there, you know, but we also knew that we could feed off of that with the play action game, and that's what really opened up a lot of those you know, intermediate throws and down the field throws that you know, they left Chris Chambers one on one, and you know, he was he was able to make some great plays. One long down the sideline down the left side that he dove for. I think he had the one crosser across the middle of a play action that you know, he caught it and and out ran the defense, split the defense for the touchdown. And I know the last one was back of the end zone, you know, down in the red zone where he made a tremendous catch, you know, getting his feet toe tapping down in the back of the end zone on a high ball. You know, je we toad drag Jay. Thanksgiving is what it's all about when it comes to a lot of NFL guys, especially playing against the Dallas Cowboys, and we all grew up on Thanksgiving as football fans as kids won to play on Thanksgiving, whether with Dallas US or playing against them. You want that Thanksgiving day game? How much did that mean to you? I know you said you've been there before Thanksgiving when you got a chance of starting QB to go in there and play on Thanksgiving? What did that like leading up to that? How was that? How was that emotionally? Freaks? I know when I played on Thanksgiving? How emotional I was? Totally? I mean, you know the whole world is watching you. It's kind of like taking Monday night and putting on steroids. You know, everyone knows on Monday night that the whole league is watching. Everyone's watching. But Thanksgiving, you know, you get non football fans that are watching. You know, the TV's on every house watch it exactly. You know, every every day, every every guy you know has his turkey and and puts the football games on. So the games are on. Everyone's watching, you know. You know, you know you're on prime stage there, and you know it's just a tremendous feeling going out there and being able to produce and and you know come away with a win like like we did. Because Dallas didn't lose a lot Yeah, Dallas didn't lose a lot on Thanksgiving. No they didn't. They definitely didn't. But we we had the throwbacks that day, too, didn't We were we were in the throwback. Yeah, we were all white. Got that Zach Thomas Jersey actually sign that was sweet. I'm glad you brought up Zach, so you know, as as well as you and and Chris played. And I think actually before I get to this question about the defense, you guys were both selected. Was it Phil Sims who did the game? You get the you got the award at the end, I guess it wasn't the turkey was it the turkey legs? Or he had the iron? Who iron? That's it? Thing? So yeah, funny funny storry, Yeah, funny story about that. You know, we we both you know, went out on the field and uh so uh uh you know they came out and the producer came out and said, hey, you know, we only have one of these awards, uh, you know, one of these trophies to give you. So you know, I said, Chris, you take it. He said, yeah, no, Jay, you take it. And ended up well one of the equipment guys probably had pab We get we get back, and the producer said, hey, we'll send you another one. Don't worry about it. Uh, you know, we'll make sure you both get one. So, you know, Chris and I we both get back and I think the next day or or you know, over the weekend. Uh, we're like, yo, you you got the trophy, right, And he said, no, you got the trophy. I gave it you and no one knew, no one to this day, I don't know where it is. Chris doesn't know where it is. He thinks I took it. I thought he took it. And uh, and I don't think they ever sent another one. Uh, you know, I don't know. I don't know who was, you know, selling it out the back door of the equipment room. But someone has the iron somewhere. Oh, that is too funny. It's either sitting at Harvey Green's closet somewhere, or Tony helped pay for one of his kids college education with it. I think that's that's my guest for one of the one great story well Jews, that kind of wraps up the memories. Oh my god, how about looking back and hearing it from these guys. Some of these stories that have been told in the fish tank. Was really wonderful of Marty Booker and Jay Feeler to come back on the show and tell us some stories that we didn't hear when they were on the show. But Jay Feeler, I love the fact that he still has no idea where that Iron Award is. Chambers doesn't know where to I wonder if Chris has it. I still say my money's on Tony Aguas if anybody has it. It kind of reminds me of the first touchdown pass and Dan Marino to Joe Rose right now, Where the hell are these items that you know it could go down in Miami Dolphin history the except oh man, that's that is one of the all time great mysteries. But really good stuff. Listen, this was a special one for us. As I said, this is my favorite holiday of the year. I'm excited for it. I do look forward to watching football, but I love the fact that I can enjoy Thanksgiving watch football kind of in the background. And then on Friday we get to see our Miami Dolphins take on the New York Jets on Black Friday, first time, big set, the first time on Black Friday. So think about this. You get to kick back your feet are up, you're still a little full, you're probably eating some leftovers, you're scrolling on your phone ordering from Amazon, and you're watching the Miami Dolphins take on the New York Jets. Doesn't get much better now, other than in the fact that you and I'll be worse. That's right, that's right. We're gonna be working. We're working for another dough big seth. It's all matters is a dope because we already ate, we're already full. We probably need to relax a little bit on Friday, anyways, even though we're probably gonna eat again on Friday, that this Friday and still enjoy it no matter what. I'm wondering who's gonna bring leftovers into the studio, right, who's gonna keep who's gonna keep it hidden at the house, and who's gonna bring it leftovers. I'll be curious to see that. But yes, I do hope that when that game concludes that we're all thankful for another Miami Dolphins win. But we'll have to see how that goes.
