Patrick Surtain: If You’re Not Holdin, You’re Not Tryin

Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep
When the Miami Dolphins traded into the second round of the 1998 draft to select Patrick Surtain out of Southern Mississippi, they landed a player who, along with Sam Madison, would form the most formidable cornerback duo in team history. Surtain would go on to play seven seasons in Miami, the last three of which concluded with a trip to the Pro Bowl. Pat hauled in 29 of his 37 career interceptions with the Dolphins, taking two back for touchdowns. He was also a physical presence on the outside, and garnered 7.5 sacks during his career. Diving in The Tank for the first time, Pat discusses the quality of players AND characters in the Dolphins DB room, his freestyle rap skills, taking it to Peyton Manning when the two were New Orleans high school star quarterbacks, and sending his son, Patrick Surtain II, to play cornerback at the University of Alabama for Nick Saban, the same man who traded him from the Dolphins to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2005.
