Robert Jones: That Dolphins Defense Was Something Special
Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Robert Jones joins O.J. McDuffie and Seth Levit for one of the most powerful conversations the show has ever had.
Jones looks back on his time in Miami from 1998–2000, where he became a key part of a ferocious Dolphins defense alongside Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, and Tim Bowens under head coach Jimmy Johnson. From the legendary defensive performance against the Raiders in 1998 to the blue-collar mentality that defined that era of Dolphins football, Jones shares stories about what made that unit so tough.
Jones also reflects on entering the league with the powerhouse Dallas Cowboys, playing alongside legends like Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin, and what it was like being part of one of football’s most dominant teams of the 1990s.
But this episode goes far beyond the field.
Robert opens up about an incredibly tragic childhood — including the murder of his mother by his father — and how those experiences shaped the man, husband, and father he has become. He explains how football became his path to building the life he never had, and why his true dream in the NFL wasn’t fame or championships, but simply creating a stable and loving family.
Along the way, Jones shares unforgettable stories about chasing down intruders before a game, battling fullbacks like Sam Gash, learning from Dolphins legends like Dan Marino, and the mentality that made those late-90s Dolphins defenses one of the most physical units in football.

00:00.031 --> 00:02.273
[SPEAKER_06]: I left the car in the middle of the street.
00:02.413 --> 00:04.355
[SPEAKER_06]: I ran calls.
00:04.535 --> 00:07.438
[SPEAKER_06]: Is it University Boulevard, cars coming everywhere?
00:08.039 --> 00:13.664
[SPEAKER_06]: I caught one and I dragged them back to the house.
00:14.145 --> 00:16.227
[SPEAKER_06]: And I told my wife, I said, call 911.
00:17.148 --> 00:18.389
[SPEAKER_06]: This is a Friday night.
00:18.989 --> 00:21.612
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, look, man, I play for the dolphins.
00:21.652 --> 00:22.813
[SPEAKER_06]: I got to leave tomorrow.
00:22.833 --> 00:24.595
[SPEAKER_06]: We fly out, we go to Oakland.
00:24.615 --> 00:25.716
[SPEAKER_06]: I fear for my family.
00:25.736 --> 00:27.017
[SPEAKER_06]: She's here by herself.
00:26.997 --> 00:37.782
[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back to the first tank presented by Van Horne Law Group and Casabella design group Seth Levitt and the toughest podcast or Dhammerino ever played with he is O. J. McDuffie juice.
00:38.403 --> 00:39.466
[SPEAKER_02]: You better be tough today.
00:40.107 --> 00:41.991
[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, you know, I am upset man.
00:42.132 --> 00:43.194
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, I am dog.
00:44.036 --> 00:46.221
[SPEAKER_07]: You know how much I love love love
00:46.201 --> 00:57.915
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, we get guys on that I play with, bro, it means a lot to me, man, and, you know, to see them doing well, man, means a lot to me, so our guest today is going to be a lot of fun, man, and that's some great stories, man, a lot of great stuff to talk about.
00:58.064 --> 01:02.150
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we really do, and it, how about us, dude?
01:02.170 --> 01:03.411
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like how terrible are we?
01:03.452 --> 01:13.866
[SPEAKER_02]: So Robert Jones, for us, welcome in Robert Jones, not the offensive lineman, the real Robert Jones, the linebacker, a place for the dolphins, from 98 to 2000.
01:14.427 --> 01:15.669
[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the fish tank, Robert.
01:15.689 --> 01:17.231
[SPEAKER_06]: I need to clear that up right now.
01:17.291 --> 01:23.499
[SPEAKER_06]: When I saw that, my immediate dolphins had an offensive lineman named Robert Jones.
01:23.519 --> 01:23.920
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like,
01:24.642 --> 01:26.972
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, why did they let that happen, man?
01:27.173 --> 01:28.639
[SPEAKER_06]: They should have cut that dude right away.
01:28.820 --> 01:30.929
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm sorry, I should have said that.
01:30.949 --> 01:32.998
[SPEAKER_06]: I shouldn't have said that, man.
01:33.038 --> 01:34.163
[SPEAKER_03]: That's it, guys.
01:34.413 --> 01:45.968
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, when I look myself up or somebody say, now, I found you on Google, but it says you're offensive lineman, I'm like, man, it got the wrong dude man.
01:46.929 --> 01:49.432
[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, man, I'll tell you this, I'll tell you this.
01:49.513 --> 01:54.199
[SPEAKER_07]: Robert, that's one of the best things about, well, see, I get OG Simpson all the time, no, bro.
01:54.219 --> 01:55.580
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'd rather take Robert Jones.
01:55.660 --> 01:59.205
[SPEAKER_07]: I take Robert Jones, I'll take Robert Jones, I'll take Robert Jones all day, man.
01:59.185 --> 02:04.953
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know, I don't know how famous that name is anymore or infamous.
02:05.434 --> 02:06.496
[SPEAKER_07]: Infamous, dude.
02:06.516 --> 02:07.817
[SPEAKER_07]: It's real infamous.
02:07.837 --> 02:08.679
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
02:08.699 --> 02:11.363
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, I was thinking, once he passed, though, man, we can get over this shit.
02:11.383 --> 02:13.405
[SPEAKER_07]: Man, but it's still, I mean, I still get jokes.
02:13.586 --> 02:17.952
[SPEAKER_07]: But you know what I tell people all the time around, but I said, you guys, they want to joke all the time.
02:18.072 --> 02:20.375
[SPEAKER_07]: You got to come up some better in new material, man.
02:20.536 --> 02:24.481
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, I mean, that joke is old and played when they want to talk to L.J.
02:24.501 --> 02:28.607
[SPEAKER_06]: Sips and stuff, you know.
02:28.788 --> 02:29.108
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
02:29.273 --> 02:30.496
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we've been doing great.
02:30.536 --> 02:34.043
[SPEAKER_02]: I just want to say one last thing on the robber Jones robber Jones thing.
02:34.363 --> 02:36.388
[SPEAKER_02]: You know where he went to after Miami, right?
02:38.432 --> 02:40.095
[SPEAKER_06]: The risk ends.
02:40.536 --> 02:43.943
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, he went to the Cowboys.
02:43.963 --> 02:47.130
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, he went to the Cowboys.
02:47.170 --> 02:48.312
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I saw that.
02:48.967 --> 02:53.351
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's trying to screw my name up there again.
02:53.411 --> 02:55.112
[SPEAKER_02]: He's apparently a really good guy.
02:55.332 --> 03:18.552
[SPEAKER_02]: So at least he's not he's not dragging your name through the mud at least not dragging it through the mud, but here's the deal once we do clarify that we are talking about Robert Jones the linebacker and not the offensive lineman that we just had here a few years ago the first thing that most mind me dolphins fans remember about Robert Jones the linebacker goes back to December six.
03:18.532 --> 03:22.618
[SPEAKER_02]: 1998, Miami Dolphins at the Oakland Raiders.
03:23.599 --> 03:29.808
[SPEAKER_02]: John Gruden was the head coach of the Raiders and they started a quarterback by the name of Donald Hollis and poor Donald Hollis.
03:30.529 --> 03:33.974
[SPEAKER_02]: Because our defense just wreaked havoc on this dude.
03:34.014 --> 03:35.536
[SPEAKER_02]: Jews say sack to me eight times.
03:35.997 --> 03:38.160
[SPEAKER_02]: They picked him off six times.
03:38.140 --> 03:43.649
[SPEAKER_02]: And then Zag Thomas and our Robert Jones, each have two interceptions.
03:43.930 --> 03:46.915
[SPEAKER_02]: And they each bring one of them back for a touchdown.
03:47.415 --> 03:50.340
[SPEAKER_02]: So on top of that, you had two of those eight sacs that day.
03:50.460 --> 03:52.263
[SPEAKER_02]: It was just an absolute ass kicking Robert.
03:52.704 --> 03:54.026
[SPEAKER_02]: What do you remember from that game?
03:55.128 --> 03:57.232
[SPEAKER_02]: And why was everything working?
03:57.272 --> 03:58.073
[SPEAKER_02]: Like everything?
03:59.150 --> 04:09.604
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know why everything it was working that day, but I tell you, man, I was talking to say, right before Christmas, and I just googled that game and I watched a whole game.
04:09.684 --> 04:17.335
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, you can YouTube already's games now, and I watched a whole game, and Zack said, hey, man, where'd you find that?
04:17.375 --> 04:20.139
[SPEAKER_06]: And I sent it to him, I think he watched it.
04:20.700 --> 04:28.330
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, man, it was a game of my life, man, that was so much stuff that happened.
04:29.137 --> 04:52.420
[SPEAKER_06]: So as we get further into this, or I can do it now, but so much stuff that happened that Friday, then this Saturday, we travel on Sunday, we had to game it then, when we got back Sunday night, I remember so much about it, you know, just going into that game, but really had my mind back at home, because I don't know if you guys knew though, we kind of got threats at our place.
04:52.460 --> 04:54.943
[SPEAKER_06]: We were standing at an apartment at that time.
04:55.043 --> 04:57.405
[SPEAKER_06]: It was my wife and my,
04:57.976 --> 04:59.698
[SPEAKER_06]: three sons, man, and juice.
04:59.738 --> 05:01.160
[SPEAKER_06]: I think you remember all three of them.
05:01.180 --> 05:01.801
[SPEAKER_06]: They were babies.
05:02.502 --> 05:08.249
[SPEAKER_06]: And getting threatened to door, I was at Blockbuster trying to find a movie on Friday night.
05:08.729 --> 05:10.271
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm gonna make this very, very short.
05:10.471 --> 05:11.332
[SPEAKER_06]: I was at Blockbuster.
05:11.352 --> 05:12.293
[SPEAKER_03]: I was your show, bro.
05:12.333 --> 05:13.695
[SPEAKER_06]: You did a story, bro.
05:13.715 --> 05:16.038
[SPEAKER_04]: You waited a long time for this, man.
05:16.058 --> 05:20.063
[SPEAKER_06]: So I was trying to find a good movie at Blockbuster.
05:20.083 --> 05:23.247
[SPEAKER_06]: Then my wife called me and she says, are you playing at the door?
05:23.868 --> 05:26.751
[SPEAKER_06]: And I said, no, no, no, I'm at Blockbuster.
05:27.254 --> 05:31.079
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, obviously at that time, there's no face time or nothing, just cell phones.
05:31.600 --> 05:34.303
[SPEAKER_06]: And so she's like, somebody's trying to break in this door.
05:34.944 --> 05:41.553
[SPEAKER_06]: And I rush home and I saw three or four guys at the front door.
05:42.334 --> 05:46.660
[SPEAKER_06]: And I yelled at him, I said, hey, hey, they took off running.
05:47.641 --> 05:49.664
[SPEAKER_06]: I left the car in the middle of the street.
05:49.844 --> 05:56.333
[SPEAKER_06]: I ran across is it University Boulevard, cars coming everywhere.
05:57.224 --> 06:01.129
[SPEAKER_06]: And I dragged them back to the house.
06:01.509 --> 06:03.591
[SPEAKER_06]: And I told my wife, I said, call 911.
06:03.772 --> 06:05.794
[SPEAKER_06]: And this is a Friday night.
06:06.415 --> 06:08.197
[SPEAKER_06]: I said, call 911.
06:09.498 --> 06:11.401
[SPEAKER_06]: And she called, police came there.
06:11.501 --> 06:14.664
[SPEAKER_06]: He said, you know, this is imprisonment.
06:14.865 --> 06:17.568
[SPEAKER_06]: And I could have rescued, but I understand.
06:17.588 --> 06:20.972
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, well, look, man, I play for the dolphins.
06:21.012 --> 06:22.133
[SPEAKER_06]: I got to leave tomorrow.
06:22.153 --> 06:22.754
[SPEAKER_06]: We fly out.
06:22.774 --> 06:23.575
[SPEAKER_06]: We go to Oakland.
06:23.955 --> 06:25.056
[SPEAKER_06]: I fear from my family.
06:25.096 --> 06:26.438
[SPEAKER_06]: She's here by herself.
06:26.738 --> 06:35.215
[SPEAKER_06]: And, you know, we handled the situation a right way from that point on, but, you know, I was nervous about going out of town.
06:35.355 --> 06:37.520
[SPEAKER_06]: I started not to go juice, self.
06:37.660 --> 06:48.021
[SPEAKER_06]: I started not to go because I was so scared to leave them by themselves and, you know, the whole time,
06:48.541 --> 06:49.963
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I'm flying on the plane.
06:50.003 --> 07:00.854
[SPEAKER_06]: I just wasn't right the whole to I don't know if it was, you know, just kind of letting a game out of my mind or taking it out on Oakland Raiders, you know, that Sunday, but that happened.
07:00.874 --> 07:08.522
[SPEAKER_06]: And then I had the great game, of course, I got, you know, interviewed and stuff and I'm flying back and, you know, take it.
07:08.542 --> 07:12.266
[SPEAKER_06]: I had my older son and he was almost seven.
07:12.326 --> 07:14.869
[SPEAKER_06]: Isaiah was five.
07:15.608 --> 07:18.591
[SPEAKER_06]: And then leave I was six months old.
07:19.211 --> 07:20.413
[SPEAKER_06]: Then I got in a house.
07:21.153 --> 07:24.376
[SPEAKER_06]: And then I'm like, they had all these decorations and stuff in there.
07:24.396 --> 07:27.239
[SPEAKER_06]: I said, yeah, you know, for daddy and all this stuff.
07:27.259 --> 07:27.659
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
07:28.440 --> 07:37.128
[SPEAKER_06]: I laid down in the bed and then my wife said, how would you like it if I were young as son was a big brother?
07:39.751 --> 07:43.995
[SPEAKER_06]: And I said, and I said, and I said, and I said, he's already a big brother.
07:45.022 --> 07:46.404
[SPEAKER_05]: Are you pregnant again?
07:46.424 --> 08:00.027
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, so, so that's why my, my third son and my oldest daughter, you know, I forgot what kind of twins you call that, but they only like what?
08:01.154 --> 08:02.156
[SPEAKER_06]: Six, more support.
08:04.882 --> 08:08.309
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's that's kind of pretty close, but that's a whole lot going on.
08:08.590 --> 08:16.767
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think like if they had ring cameras back then juice, we might have seen that one of those guys at the door look like Donald Hollis, because that's
08:16.747 --> 08:29.561
[SPEAKER_06]: They were scared, they were young kids, they were scared and I just think they were just trying to have fun, but that's not a that's not a thing to do with somebody's house, man, with their family.
08:30.282 --> 08:41.775
[SPEAKER_06]: No.
08:42.042 --> 08:44.425
[SPEAKER_06]: I had no fear at that age.
08:44.645 --> 08:45.626
[SPEAKER_06]: I had no fear.
08:45.726 --> 08:51.793
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I ran across the University of Boulevard, cars are dodging us like it's some movie or something.
08:51.813 --> 08:53.976
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I'm gonna catch one of these fools.
08:54.296 --> 09:00.524
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm bringing them back to the house and I'm gonna make them tell me every name that was in that little group.
09:01.244 --> 09:03.827
[SPEAKER_06]: But now I wouldn't dare do that.
09:04.428 --> 09:06.851
[SPEAKER_06]: Right, I would dare do that.
09:06.871 --> 09:08.573
[SPEAKER_06]: I wouldn't dare do that, man.
09:09.127 --> 09:14.888
[SPEAKER_07]: especially in Miami, yeah, you never know these little kids attacking me for sure.
09:15.430 --> 09:18.883
[SPEAKER_07]: Oh my gosh now I wouldn't I wouldn't dare do that
09:19.252 --> 09:21.055
[SPEAKER_07]: man, that's that's wild man.
09:21.075 --> 09:23.679
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, he should have brought a pack of his buddies with him, big set.
09:23.699 --> 09:36.300
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, if his buddies would have been there, who I want to talk about right now, like the Zax and the JT's and the Sambs and the Pass and the Timbo's and the Traces, if you had them with the RJ, you know, the dudes wouldn't even thought about coming to you.
09:36.500 --> 09:37.161
[SPEAKER_07]: You know what I mean?
09:37.642 --> 09:39.385
[SPEAKER_07]: All I need is talk about those stats, man.
09:39.686 --> 09:43.572
[SPEAKER_07]: Talk about those
09:43.552 --> 09:44.693
[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody says that.
09:44.714 --> 09:45.835
[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody else can stay home.
09:46.115 --> 09:47.417
[SPEAKER_06]: Everybody says that man.
09:47.437 --> 09:48.999
[SPEAKER_06]: Just give me just give me tempo.
09:49.039 --> 09:51.883
[SPEAKER_06]: Not the other guys would have done, but tempo.
09:52.303 --> 09:53.625
[SPEAKER_06]: He scary in a way, man.
09:53.645 --> 09:55.948
[SPEAKER_06]: He's like, I never met a guy, man.
09:56.068 --> 10:01.515
[SPEAKER_06]: It was, he was so humble, but at the same time, man, he came with a vengeance, man.
10:01.536 --> 10:03.758
[SPEAKER_06]: It's just what he shared everywhere, man.
10:03.798 --> 10:06.522
[SPEAKER_06]: Like Coach Johnson, like, hey, y'all got it.
10:07.025 --> 10:10.829
[SPEAKER_06]: Dress up, look like Professor Stratton, we get on the plane, business trip.
10:11.029 --> 10:14.893
[SPEAKER_06]: Tim Boe come on there with a bag on T-shirt, man, I think, man.
10:15.053 --> 10:17.736
[SPEAKER_07]: T-shirt, jeans, tins, and a fit it.
10:17.916 --> 10:20.159
[SPEAKER_07]: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:20.179 --> 10:24.744
[SPEAKER_07]: You know what I did to our J-man, you know, back then, too, bro, we just felt as an offense.
10:24.764 --> 10:27.707
[SPEAKER_07]: We were so, like, we were getting it done, you know.
10:27.727 --> 10:30.450
[SPEAKER_07]: We were getting enough done to support you guys, man.
10:30.490 --> 10:31.911
[SPEAKER_07]: You guys were a bunch of dogs, man.
10:31.931 --> 10:32.952
[SPEAKER_07]: And you guys were kicking ass.
10:32.972 --> 10:36.576
[SPEAKER_07]: I was just talking about in the Oakland game, man.
10:37.265 --> 10:38.829
[SPEAKER_07]: I feel bad to this day.
10:39.491 --> 10:44.303
[SPEAKER_07]: I try to apologize to the defensive guys to this day and how in our offense was, man.
10:44.965 --> 10:47.110
[SPEAKER_07]: So we do appreciate you guys, man.
10:47.150 --> 10:49.918
[SPEAKER_07]: But I mean, look at that group I just mentioned though, man.
10:49.958 --> 10:50.760
[SPEAKER_07]: This is Axe J.
10:51.161 --> 10:52.805
[SPEAKER_07]: Talk about that group as a whole, man.
10:52.825 --> 10:54.008
[SPEAKER_07]: Why are you guys so good, man?
10:53.988 --> 11:06.981
[SPEAKER_06]: We were so good, man, because I think, you know, juice when I tell people about this stuff, when I tell people about our defense and Miami at that time, you know, we were superstars, but we were blue-collar guys.
11:07.161 --> 11:19.033
[SPEAKER_06]: Nobody on the defense thought they would bigger than the other, you know, I mean, at that time, you know, sand plate really, really well, had played really well,
11:19.520 --> 11:23.565
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I think it was Calvin and Sean who rotated a lot at the strong safety.
11:23.765 --> 11:24.806
[SPEAKER_06]: Everybody was complete.
11:24.986 --> 11:26.268
[SPEAKER_06]: Everybody did their job.
11:26.428 --> 11:28.511
[SPEAKER_06]: They held down their responsibility.
11:28.831 --> 11:35.158
[SPEAKER_06]: And I think playing a defense, you got to do your part and not try to do everybody else's part.
11:35.559 --> 11:40.785
[SPEAKER_06]: And as far as the front line goes, everybody was humble, but they got after it.
11:40.765 --> 11:44.611
[SPEAKER_06]: There were no superstars on the defense.
11:44.871 --> 11:46.294
[SPEAKER_06]: We were a blue collar defense.
11:46.314 --> 11:49.399
[SPEAKER_06]: And I think one of the reasons is Jimmy Kepel's humble.
11:49.599 --> 11:50.901
[SPEAKER_06]: Jimmy was that type of coach.
11:50.941 --> 11:54.967
[SPEAKER_06]: And when you look everywhere that he's coached, he kept guys humble.
11:55.008 --> 11:56.991
[SPEAKER_06]: He had a bunch of guys that could play.
11:57.491 --> 11:58.493
[SPEAKER_06]: But he kept him humble.
11:58.673 --> 12:03.821
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, in Dallas, we had the number one defense two years in a row.
12:03.862 --> 12:05.344
[SPEAKER_06]: I think it was 92.93.
12:06.085 --> 12:07.347
[SPEAKER_06]: And nobody made the proble.
12:08.609 --> 12:12.875
[SPEAKER_06]: Nobody made the probowl, and in Miami, I know my first year there.
12:12.895 --> 12:16.560
[SPEAKER_06]: I think the only person that made the probowl was maybe ten bones.
12:17.201 --> 12:19.944
[SPEAKER_06]: I think he was the only one that made the probowl.
12:20.806 --> 12:30.439
[SPEAKER_06]: Maybe it was the second year, but everybody just played together, collectively, man, and we loved being the underdog, everywhere we went.
12:30.499 --> 12:36.507
[SPEAKER_06]: We loved being the underdog, and as far as the offense is concerned, juice, I mean,
12:37.043 --> 12:42.359
[SPEAKER_06]: I loved it, I loved the group that we had, and I'm a tell you why, man.
12:42.379 --> 12:50.665
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, coming to Miami and getting to play with damn arena was just, it was just great for me.
12:51.472 --> 12:55.716
[SPEAKER_06]: I get to tell people, I play one of the greatest quarterbacks that's ever played the game.
12:56.617 --> 12:57.818
[SPEAKER_06]: So I enjoyed it, man.
12:57.858 --> 13:03.043
[SPEAKER_06]: So even though Dan threw a lot of interceptions on my first year there, I'm like, man, suck it up.
13:03.063 --> 13:04.184
[SPEAKER_06]: Let's just go do a job.
13:04.204 --> 13:05.265
[SPEAKER_06]: We can't do none about that.
13:05.285 --> 13:06.706
[SPEAKER_06]: Let's go do a job.
13:06.726 --> 13:12.632
[SPEAKER_06]: And I think that's the greatest thing about our defense is that, you know, it's all finished turning it over or coughed it up.
13:13.092 --> 13:20.719
[SPEAKER_06]: We went right back out there on the field and we got it back.
13:21.121 --> 13:23.588
[SPEAKER_06]: We could do and control what we could control.
13:23.689 --> 13:25.374
[SPEAKER_06]: We couldn't control the offense, man.
13:25.414 --> 13:26.838
[SPEAKER_06]: I think that's what made us great.
13:26.878 --> 13:27.901
[SPEAKER_06]: We never complained.
13:28.944 --> 13:32.013
[SPEAKER_06]: Nobody on a defense felt like they was better than anybody else.
13:32.595 --> 13:36.025
[SPEAKER_06]: We practiced, we showed up, we did all the things right.
13:36.764 --> 13:37.725
[SPEAKER_07]: No, not about it.
13:37.746 --> 13:39.248
[SPEAKER_02]: That was a heck of a group, man.
13:39.268 --> 13:40.309
[SPEAKER_02]: That was a heck of a group of people.
13:40.329 --> 13:41.571
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it was a lot of fun.
13:41.591 --> 13:42.292
[SPEAKER_02]: That was definitely fun.
13:42.673 --> 13:47.200
[SPEAKER_02]: So one of the things you were known for, Robert, was your physical play, right?
13:47.280 --> 13:52.448
[SPEAKER_02]: Just a downhill old school run stop and linebacker, taking on fullbacks.
13:52.849 --> 14:00.460
[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know, I made a few calls and you can probably connect the dots, but one of your former teammates said, he's a run stop and full, you know?
14:01.121 --> 14:04.206
[SPEAKER_02]: And we also understand,
14:04.473 --> 14:11.866
[SPEAKER_02]: that you might have like talked a little bit out there, you know, I'm guilty.
14:11.886 --> 14:14.030
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm guilty about that.
14:14.150 --> 14:15.292
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm guilty about that.
14:15.452 --> 14:20.160
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, like off the field, you know, I want to respect people, man.
14:20.240 --> 14:25.249
[SPEAKER_06]: I want to live a different life than I did on the field, but on the field.
14:25.887 --> 14:30.256
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, Seth, you probably didn't want to hear some of the words I was using.
14:30.276 --> 14:32.701
[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to hear it, and I just didn't want to direct it to me, that's all.
14:33.283 --> 14:40.859
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, no, I'm like, just some of the stuff that I used to say, man, I'm like, I just, you know, I know I just play with a passion.
14:41.039 --> 14:44.807
[SPEAKER_06]: I play with a passion, man, and I learn how to do that.
14:44.787 --> 14:50.458
[SPEAKER_06]: Um, because that's what you have to do to sustain yourself, you know, throughout the NFL.
14:50.518 --> 14:52.882
[SPEAKER_06]: You got to play with a passion every game.
14:52.942 --> 14:58.293
[SPEAKER_06]: You got to, it has to come from somewhere, you know, you have to play with that passion.
14:58.513 --> 15:06.508
[SPEAKER_06]: So when I got out there on the field, you know, if you're going to talk that, if you're going to talk that junk, you got to, you got to get back it up.
15:07.433 --> 15:10.857
[SPEAKER_06]: I got you got to be back it up and I took pride in being physical.
15:10.917 --> 15:20.409
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, like, I didn't have a lot of gifts that a lot of other athletes had, like, you know, my speed was it was it was good for a long back.
15:20.429 --> 15:34.707
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, four, five, nine, four, six, you know, it was good for a long back, but you know, four, six and not scared to hit, you know, I mean,
15:35.783 --> 15:37.605
[SPEAKER_06]: I bet you he's getting his head checked, too.
15:39.467 --> 15:39.647
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
15:39.667 --> 15:40.928
[SPEAKER_03]: So I want to ask you about that.
15:40.948 --> 15:44.992
[SPEAKER_02]: So Jews, this is, it's like called Zach, you know, all right, we'll just put it out there.
15:45.012 --> 15:46.773
[SPEAKER_02]: He loves his podcast, so he'll be listed.
15:46.793 --> 15:54.261
[SPEAKER_02]: So Zach can call you out, but I called Zach, and he said, man, we would sit and watch film of the opponent, obviously, that's what you guys do.
15:54.781 --> 16:04.170
[SPEAKER_02]: And every time no matter who the opponent was, no matter who good they were, how good they were, you know, like Sam Gash, and he said, Robert would just sit there and hit the clicker and go, man, he's soft.
16:04.150 --> 16:08.135
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he would say, he would just say, in the film room, we would just say this guy's soft.
16:08.155 --> 16:10.739
[SPEAKER_02]: And Zach was like, you know, that's so superstitious.
16:10.799 --> 16:11.980
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't drink, sit, what have you.
16:12.441 --> 16:17.548
[SPEAKER_02]: But he said there was a time that Sam Gash might have proven that he wasn't soft.
16:17.628 --> 16:18.088
[SPEAKER_06]: He did.
16:18.369 --> 16:20.632
[SPEAKER_06]: Sam, Sam did, threw him, he proved it.
16:20.652 --> 16:23.155
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm gonna tell you what game it was.
16:25.244 --> 16:26.445
[SPEAKER_06]: We were in Buffalo.
16:26.786 --> 16:27.467
[SPEAKER_06]: In Buffalo.
16:27.807 --> 16:28.928
[SPEAKER_06]: We were in Buffalo.
16:29.349 --> 16:31.511
[SPEAKER_06]: And Sam and I were going at it, man.
16:31.571 --> 16:33.313
[SPEAKER_06]: We hit each other in the whole, man.
16:33.393 --> 16:36.677
[SPEAKER_06]: And it was like a commercial with two rams going into each other.
16:37.218 --> 16:37.418
[SPEAKER_06]: Wow.
16:39.080 --> 16:41.322
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, my bail was wrong.
16:42.003 --> 16:43.465
[SPEAKER_06]: Because I walked to their huddle.
16:44.586 --> 16:45.387
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, boy.
16:46.148 --> 16:47.229
[SPEAKER_06]: Zach pulled me back.
16:47.249 --> 16:49.672
[SPEAKER_06]: Zach said, Robert need to get out of the game.
16:49.692 --> 16:50.633
[SPEAKER_06]: Robert, Robert, get out of the game.
16:52.135 --> 16:54.357
[SPEAKER_06]: And back in those times, man.
16:54.944 --> 16:59.729
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, you could, you could get some smelling salt or something or get yourself together, shake it off, you can go back.
16:59.749 --> 17:02.913
[SPEAKER_06]: So I went to the sideline and I was done for the hat.
17:03.573 --> 17:09.320
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, even Sam, Sam came or else it sounds like he got smelling salt and his nose.
17:09.340 --> 17:10.301
[SPEAKER_06]: He's still ain't moving.
17:11.182 --> 17:13.825
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I had it in each nostril.
17:14.045 --> 17:16.428
[SPEAKER_06]: I had smelling salt and each nostril.
17:17.469 --> 17:19.931
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, this is, this is no lie.
17:20.012 --> 17:20.973
[SPEAKER_06]: This is no lie.
17:20.993 --> 17:21.373
[SPEAKER_06]: And then,
17:21.927 --> 17:23.810
[SPEAKER_06]: halftime we're going for halftime.
17:23.990 --> 17:26.334
[SPEAKER_06]: I finally, you know, it comes back.
17:26.835 --> 17:29.499
[SPEAKER_06]: I come back and I go right back.
17:29.599 --> 17:33.866
[SPEAKER_06]: I'll do on the field a second here and I go right back at him.
17:34.086 --> 17:35.248
[SPEAKER_06]: I go right back at him.
17:35.869 --> 17:38.233
[SPEAKER_06]: I just enjoy that contact man.
17:38.293 --> 17:40.797
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't recommend that in today's football.
17:41.300 --> 17:45.345
[SPEAKER_06]: And plus, if you get that concussion, you're done for two or three.
17:45.685 --> 17:46.426
[SPEAKER_06]: I can put it out.
17:46.646 --> 17:48.128
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, put it all right away.
17:48.288 --> 17:51.151
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and they probably should have done it then.
17:51.191 --> 17:53.954
[SPEAKER_07]: To both you and Sam probably should have had your eyes out of that game.
17:53.995 --> 17:56.097
[SPEAKER_07]: And you guys are playing little too violent right there.
17:56.117 --> 17:57.338
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, little too violent.
17:57.418 --> 18:03.125
[SPEAKER_06]: We were playing real violent, but that's the way I played, man.
18:03.205 --> 18:07.510
[SPEAKER_06]: And then watching the game as a kid growing up, you know,
18:08.063 --> 18:13.971
[SPEAKER_06]: back in those days, it's like running backs were drafted high because it was going to be a running game.
18:14.011 --> 18:17.516
[SPEAKER_06]: That's why receivers that are getting paid because it's a passing game.
18:18.037 --> 18:24.525
[SPEAKER_06]: But my era, it was physical, it was leads, it was tosses, it was all of that stuff, man.
18:24.585 --> 18:27.349
[SPEAKER_06]: So I just pride in my stuff and being in physical.
18:28.931 --> 18:32.897
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I mean, if there's only like three full backs in football right now, Robert, so I get it, man.
18:32.917 --> 18:35.320
[SPEAKER_07]: RJ's like, it's a whole different ball
18:35.924 --> 18:38.126
[SPEAKER_06]: I couldn't even tell you who to a three full backs are.
18:38.527 --> 18:39.488
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know who they are.
18:39.788 --> 18:40.989
[SPEAKER_02]: And what's one of them is here.
18:41.249 --> 18:45.654
[SPEAKER_07]: And we had one of the Ravens had one in San Francisco have one.
18:45.954 --> 18:47.315
[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, I couldn't name it up.
18:47.335 --> 18:48.777
[SPEAKER_07]: Those are three I know of it.
18:48.837 --> 18:49.558
[SPEAKER_07]: Remember, San Fran?
18:49.598 --> 18:52.240
[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, the Ravens was like a 300 pound dude.
18:52.260 --> 18:54.903
[SPEAKER_07]: He's pretty big dude that, you know what I think comes down here.
18:55.463 --> 18:59.307
[SPEAKER_07]: He's probably solved for real, Robert.
18:59.327 --> 19:00.649
[SPEAKER_03]: He's a he's soft.
19:00.669 --> 19:02.150
[SPEAKER_03]: He's soft.
19:02.450 --> 19:02.951
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, he's good.
19:03.011 --> 19:05.053
[SPEAKER_06]: Juice, I like to compare.
19:05.270 --> 19:15.968
[SPEAKER_06]: our defense, I would tell my son, I'm like, you know, that, that 98 defense we had at Miami, I said, we would a kick show as, I mean, we'd a kick show as he says pop out a ran right by you.
19:15.988 --> 19:16.489
[SPEAKER_06]: I just ran right by you.
19:16.509 --> 19:26.485
[SPEAKER_06]: So I'd like to compare, man, because I do think, you know, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and,
19:27.511 --> 19:31.036
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, they do this a lot of basketball, they do it a lot and football.
19:31.116 --> 19:33.239
[SPEAKER_06]: What if this guy played during this time?
19:33.319 --> 19:34.520
[SPEAKER_06]: How would he have been?
19:34.581 --> 19:36.763
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, Barry said they're trying to compare it.
19:36.783 --> 19:37.084
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
19:37.424 --> 19:39.407
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, trying to compare errors and stuff.
19:39.427 --> 19:42.892
[SPEAKER_06]: But I really take pride in that 1998 defense man.
19:42.972 --> 19:45.776
[SPEAKER_06]: We had a awesome defense.
19:45.796 --> 19:46.737
[SPEAKER_06]: It's a awesome defense.
19:47.137 --> 19:47.999
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, we did, man.
19:48.199 --> 19:48.860
[SPEAKER_07]: Sorry, sorry.
19:48.940 --> 19:50.061
[SPEAKER_07]: Sorry, again for the offense.
19:50.101 --> 19:50.923
[SPEAKER_07]: Not being very good.
19:51.423 --> 19:51.623
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
19:53.326 --> 19:54.587
[SPEAKER_06]: Man, that's all right.
19:54.607 --> 19:55.649
[SPEAKER_06]: Y'all did great, man.
19:55.809 --> 19:57.231
[SPEAKER_06]: Y'all did great.
19:57.616 --> 20:10.160
[SPEAKER_06]: I'll tell you, I love that, I love it because, you know, I don't know if you know, Jews, you were the first person, my whole career, my whole career.
20:11.864 --> 20:13.366
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I wouldn't touch no alcohol.
20:14.789 --> 20:17.835
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, rookie, rookie, rookie year.
20:18.372 --> 20:20.974
[SPEAKER_06]: Steking you like my four years in Dallas.
20:21.054 --> 20:22.336
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't even drink alcohol.
20:22.656 --> 20:24.798
[SPEAKER_07]: Like we had famous for this.
20:24.818 --> 20:25.699
[SPEAKER_06]: We had new years.
20:25.859 --> 20:32.485
[SPEAKER_06]: We had new years at Alvin Harper's house and this is when I was in Dallas.
20:32.665 --> 20:33.886
[SPEAKER_06]: Everybody drinking in there.
20:34.006 --> 20:35.087
[SPEAKER_06]: My wife was drinking.
20:35.448 --> 20:36.128
[SPEAKER_06]: I wouldn't touch it.
20:36.208 --> 20:41.633
[SPEAKER_06]: Because I felt like alcohol does nothing for you on the football field.
20:41.653 --> 20:43.435
[SPEAKER_06]: I just took pride in playing my ball.
20:43.595 --> 20:46.658
[SPEAKER_06]: It was like football and then everybody else and everything else.
20:47.482 --> 20:55.274
[SPEAKER_06]: And then obviously, you know, I'm having a good year in Miami and, you know, things are just going really well for me.
20:55.474 --> 20:59.280
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, you know, what, I'm going to get a new contract man.
20:59.340 --> 21:04.068
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know if this is going to still be here or, you know, or somewhere else.
21:04.108 --> 21:05.710
[SPEAKER_06]: But I'm going to get a new contract, man.
21:05.730 --> 21:13.843
[SPEAKER_06]: And then we're coming back on a plane and we're just having
21:16.287 --> 21:19.491
[SPEAKER_06]: You put out that Captain Morgan on the plane, man.
21:19.671 --> 21:22.073
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, took a little sip of that thing.
21:22.113 --> 21:23.595
[SPEAKER_06]: I said, man, this is kind of good.
21:24.316 --> 21:28.180
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, what if I've been missing out on one, man?
21:28.561 --> 21:30.883
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, juice.
21:30.903 --> 21:33.646
[SPEAKER_06]: I got hooked on that Captain Morgan ever since.
21:33.746 --> 21:37.771
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, got my own Captain Morgan taking me a little sip.
21:37.791 --> 21:43.257
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, when I get home in a hard practice, taking me a little sip, you know, wouldn't get crazy with it.
21:43.591 --> 21:48.937
[SPEAKER_06]: But that story leads up to when Dan had a bad game.
21:48.957 --> 21:50.699
[SPEAKER_06]: I think we had Detroit somewhere.
21:50.739 --> 21:54.944
[SPEAKER_06]: He had a really bad game and we're flying back from Detroit.
21:55.705 --> 22:02.072
[SPEAKER_06]: And Dan asked me, he said, hey, Robert, I got a cool in my car.
22:02.092 --> 22:03.414
[SPEAKER_06]: I want to get to the airport now.
22:03.434 --> 22:05.376
[SPEAKER_06]: I want you to hang around and drink with me.
22:06.057 --> 22:10.662
[SPEAKER_06]: And you know, Dan, like, beer, I wasn't, I wasn't a big,
22:10.793 --> 22:14.436
[SPEAKER_06]: I wasn't a beer guy at all, you know, and steal to this day.
22:14.456 --> 22:17.059
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't like beer, but I'm like, you know what?
22:19.301 --> 22:20.542
[SPEAKER_06]: Man, just eff it, man.
22:20.602 --> 22:22.184
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm gonna have a beer with Dan.
22:22.284 --> 22:29.150
[SPEAKER_06]: Because I'm a guy, how many guys can say they drink with damn arena?
22:30.712 --> 22:32.453
[SPEAKER_06]: So I did it, so I did it.
22:32.513 --> 22:38.539
[SPEAKER_06]: So those are my, those are my like, my alcohol stories, you know?
22:38.789 --> 22:40.372
[SPEAKER_06]: two guys from Miami.
22:40.713 --> 22:41.675
[SPEAKER_06]: One started me.
22:41.936 --> 22:43.519
[SPEAKER_06]: Juice is your fault.
22:44.140 --> 22:44.441
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
22:44.661 --> 22:45.463
[SPEAKER_06]: You started me.
22:46.064 --> 22:50.614
[SPEAKER_06]: And then just just then just kind of like, you know, mode me into it.
22:50.634 --> 22:52.478
[SPEAKER_06]: Man, he mode me into it.
22:52.795 --> 22:54.819
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I hope you're proud of yourself.
22:54.839 --> 22:59.147
[SPEAKER_07]: Well, sometimes when you take the edge off, big staff got to take that edge off, so you got to take it.
22:59.167 --> 23:00.689
[SPEAKER_06]: You got to take the edge off.
23:00.709 --> 23:01.791
[SPEAKER_06]: You got to take the edge off.
23:02.072 --> 23:02.433
[SPEAKER_07]: You do.
23:02.513 --> 23:04.917
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, especially after a game, you talk about a football game.
23:05.458 --> 23:06.760
[SPEAKER_07]: Obviously, we're part in like that.
23:06.780 --> 23:09.285
[SPEAKER_07]: We might be one that game, whatever amount of men.
23:09.265 --> 23:12.388
[SPEAKER_07]: And, you know, you're so, you're still on such a high, and then you got to me.
23:12.408 --> 23:13.689
[SPEAKER_07]: We're such a high man.
23:13.709 --> 23:15.251
[SPEAKER_07]: You're adrenaline still flowing, man.
23:15.571 --> 23:17.093
[SPEAKER_07]: It's hard to turn that off, man.
23:17.173 --> 23:18.174
[SPEAKER_07]: It really is, bro.
23:18.234 --> 23:19.996
[SPEAKER_07]: It's like, you want to go to sleep.
23:20.036 --> 23:20.917
[SPEAKER_07]: That's why I'm the hell.
23:21.197 --> 23:23.960
[SPEAKER_07]: They're, honestly, I mean, you all know this.
23:24.320 --> 23:28.604
[SPEAKER_07]: They're passing out and being on the plane because guys can't, they can't even calm down, man.
23:28.664 --> 23:29.986
[SPEAKER_07]: They can't even come down, man.
23:30.006 --> 23:34.430
[SPEAKER_07]: So, we have a little sip of Captain Morgan was working with, was probably pretty good for us.
23:34.450 --> 23:37.433
[SPEAKER_06]: Captain Morgan is good, but now I don't even touch it, man.
23:38.122 --> 23:41.517
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't touch Captain Morgan, I like my tequila.
23:41.918 --> 23:47.907
[SPEAKER_02]: And he said, hey, yeah, you know, I've given up alcohols and I moved on.
23:48.048 --> 24:10.322
[SPEAKER_07]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
24:10.302 --> 24:15.442
[SPEAKER_06]: I get it on all May that that Mount C. Mountain Dew is worse than to kill him.
24:15.462 --> 24:18.996
[SPEAKER_06]: You know he knows that man my heart racing.
24:19.381 --> 24:20.984
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, Mountain Dew is worse, man.
24:21.044 --> 24:25.351
[SPEAKER_06]: And all that sugar and that stuff was that about 35 grams, 45 grams of sugar.
24:25.751 --> 24:27.314
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, I don't, you know, don't look at that.
24:27.334 --> 24:29.878
[SPEAKER_06]: You really need experience.
24:29.898 --> 24:35.688
[SPEAKER_06]: Hey, man, I'm just, you know, some of the stuff made in like, I don't mix drinks.
24:35.948 --> 24:36.729
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't mix it.
24:36.809 --> 24:37.310
[SPEAKER_06]: I drink it.
24:37.491 --> 24:38.713
[SPEAKER_06]: I drink it like an old man.
24:38.793 --> 24:40.535
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, it's tequila on ice.
24:40.616 --> 24:41.136
[SPEAKER_06]: That's it.
24:41.657 --> 24:42.098
[SPEAKER_06]: Right, you know.
24:42.888 --> 24:48.714
[SPEAKER_06]: I keep it like that, you know, but you know, I don't mix it because of the sugar stuff.
24:48.734 --> 24:52.717
[SPEAKER_06]: So, you know, I make my regular visits to the doctor.
24:52.818 --> 24:53.919
[SPEAKER_06]: I want to stay healthy.
24:54.119 --> 24:57.062
[SPEAKER_06]: I want to live, you know what I mean?
24:57.142 --> 25:11.916
[SPEAKER_06]: So, the biggest thing, the biggest thing, I had to cut out my, oh, I see you mound do right there.
25:12.402 --> 25:16.608
[SPEAKER_06]: So it's interesting, man, I take my yearly visits.
25:16.708 --> 25:19.452
[SPEAKER_06]: I go, go to the dentist.
25:19.732 --> 25:21.034
[SPEAKER_06]: What dentist twice a year?
25:21.655 --> 25:27.723
[SPEAKER_06]: The dentist, and then the eye doctor, and then I'm going to my doctor doctor.
25:29.165 --> 25:34.653
[SPEAKER_06]: And she said, she said, she told me at fifth, I was 52 years old.
25:34.913 --> 25:36.676
[SPEAKER_06]: I was 52, I'm 56 now.
25:36.776 --> 25:37.817
[SPEAKER_06]: She told me at fifth to two.
25:37.877 --> 25:41.903
[SPEAKER_06]: She said, she said, Robert, if you don't change your diet,
25:42.997 --> 25:51.092
[SPEAKER_06]: about 56, you will have a heart attack and the biggest thing in my diet was the sugar.
25:52.053 --> 25:52.314
[SPEAKER_06]: Right.
25:52.454 --> 25:54.117
[SPEAKER_06]: So I cut it immediately.
25:54.277 --> 25:54.898
[SPEAKER_06]: It was hard.
25:55.039 --> 25:55.600
[SPEAKER_06]: It was tough.
25:56.201 --> 26:06.439
[SPEAKER_06]: Like today I drank my coffee, no sugar, you know, I don't eat no cookie cakes, pies, anything has sugar in it, man.
26:06.925 --> 26:11.652
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I know some things break down the sugar, natural sugar like fruit and stuff.
26:11.692 --> 26:20.145
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I mean, I do that, but you know, I'm trying to listen, man, I don't think I know everything, so I think I'll slip all players.
26:20.185 --> 26:28.418
[SPEAKER_06]: Maybe we got these egos like we, we were warriors and we know everything, I'm like, no, I listen to, I listen to everybody.
26:28.638 --> 26:31.303
[SPEAKER_06]: I try to listen, learn, because I don't want to live.
26:31.964 --> 26:32.224
[SPEAKER_07]: Right.
26:32.710 --> 26:33.411
[SPEAKER_06]: I want to live.
26:33.872 --> 26:34.895
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, man.
26:34.915 --> 26:40.486
[SPEAKER_07]: And we got a beautiful family, man, that you have to be around for all of the major events.
26:40.506 --> 26:41.348
[SPEAKER_06]: I want to be around.
26:41.388 --> 26:42.971
[SPEAKER_06]: I have two grand kids now.
26:42.991 --> 26:44.855
[SPEAKER_06]: I want to be around to watch them.
26:45.817 --> 26:47.320
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, how about you guys?
26:47.340 --> 26:48.643
[SPEAKER_06]: Y'all got grand kids yet.
26:49.180 --> 26:54.225
[SPEAKER_06]: No, sir, slow down, yeah, slow down, okay.
26:54.245 --> 26:55.967
[SPEAKER_06]: All right, man.
26:56.047 --> 26:57.689
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I got, I got great kids.
26:57.709 --> 26:58.069
[SPEAKER_06]: We'll see.
26:58.149 --> 27:06.097
[SPEAKER_06]: I had, I had kids when, you know, juice, we were playing it, you know, it, my mom had kids when we were playing.
27:06.157 --> 27:12.504
[SPEAKER_06]: So, you know, my middle son, he has a, he has a son that's three years old now.
27:12.624 --> 27:18.630
[SPEAKER_06]: So, you
27:21.445 --> 27:22.546
[SPEAKER_06]: I love it.
27:22.806 --> 27:24.468
[SPEAKER_06]: It is two POP.
27:24.828 --> 27:28.312
[SPEAKER_07]: I'm the second right P, two five right name.
27:28.872 --> 27:33.297
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, so I love my kids.
27:33.317 --> 27:34.018
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, you go, man.
27:34.038 --> 27:34.558
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, RJ.
27:34.598 --> 27:40.644
[SPEAKER_07]: We, you know, we typically focus on the dolphins because you know, that's what we're really all about here.
27:41.045 --> 27:48.432
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, but I think it's important for us to also understand where you came from a man and you know, I don't mean the cowboys.
27:48.833 --> 27:53.619
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, like we talked about you and I, yeah, you and I were talking about this the other day, man.
27:54.981 --> 28:04.453
[SPEAKER_07]: But I mean, the start of your journey, bro, I mean, really, I mean, probably from like birth on then was was really, really tragic.
28:05.454 --> 28:10.160
[SPEAKER_07]: And I know we talked about it, man, but are you are you comfortable discussing, you know.
28:10.180 --> 28:11.742
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, yeah, I can talk to you.
28:12.022 --> 28:13.284
[SPEAKER_06]: I can talk about that juice.
28:13.344 --> 28:16.748
[SPEAKER_06]: I try to sum it up and not drag it out, man.
28:17.504 --> 28:30.401
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, a lot of people didn't know that, you know, I come from such a violent family, man, my mother was murdered by my dad and, you know, I was an infant when she was murdered by my dad.
28:30.541 --> 28:38.211
[SPEAKER_06]: I was taking in by my aunt and uncle and, and, you know, as a little kid, that's all you know.
28:38.231 --> 28:43.258
[SPEAKER_06]: So, I call my aunt and uncle, my mom and dad.
28:43.441 --> 29:02.251
[SPEAKER_06]: probably by the time I was able to, you know, go to school five, six years old, I found myself walking to school by myself because at that time, my uncle had, uh, did things that, you know, wasn't lawfully right and so he spent time in jail.
29:02.271 --> 29:11.305
[SPEAKER_06]: So it was just me and my aunt slash mom.
29:11.622 --> 29:17.293
[SPEAKER_06]: eating something, peanut butter and jelly or honey on the bread or whatever it was and then I would walk to school.
29:17.693 --> 29:25.608
[SPEAKER_06]: And to this day, you know, self juice, I cannot tell you how or who filled up my paperwork to get the free lunch.
29:26.590 --> 29:32.601
[SPEAKER_06]: And it has stuff man and growing up, you know, by the time I got to the point where I could play literally football,
29:33.172 --> 29:34.774
[SPEAKER_06]: You're my uncle slash dad.
29:34.814 --> 29:36.156
[SPEAKER_06]: He's he's out of jail.
29:36.477 --> 29:42.325
[SPEAKER_06]: So he was a really, you know, hands on hard labor, blue collar guy.
29:42.385 --> 29:44.608
[SPEAKER_06]: So he didn't believe in sports and it has stuff.
29:44.668 --> 29:52.440
[SPEAKER_06]: So, you know, for me, if you guys ever watched that movie, if you haven't go watch it, Denzel call fences.
29:53.321 --> 29:54.262
[SPEAKER_06]: Go watch that movie.
29:54.282 --> 29:56.525
[SPEAKER_06]: Because it's it's like a replica of my life.
29:56.545 --> 30:02.554
[SPEAKER_06]: I swear, I felt like Denzel just saw my life
30:02.703 --> 30:06.329
[SPEAKER_06]: And it's the, and it's the same school colors, but it's all my life.
30:06.369 --> 30:08.452
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, he's, I'm going to make a move about that.
30:08.833 --> 30:14.802
[SPEAKER_06]: But, but my, my dad did not believe in sports.
30:14.822 --> 30:21.733
[SPEAKER_06]: So I had to, I had to sneak, I had to lie and say, you know, I'm going to study hall or something.
30:21.934 --> 30:26.200
[SPEAKER_06]: Now, education, you know, superseded the, the work that he wanted me to do.
30:26.421 --> 30:27.883
[SPEAKER_06]: Like I said, he, he painted.
30:28.167 --> 30:29.188
[SPEAKER_06]: He cut grass.
30:29.208 --> 30:30.310
[SPEAKER_06]: He did stuff like that.
30:30.410 --> 30:32.893
[SPEAKER_06]: It was all about making that dollar for the day.
30:33.754 --> 30:35.395
[SPEAKER_06]: Never had the support.
30:35.596 --> 30:44.426
[SPEAKER_06]: My my parents didn't come to no games high school championships state championships College games East Carolina.
30:44.546 --> 30:46.749
[SPEAKER_06]: First time they ever go to a major bowl game.
30:47.129 --> 30:48.691
[SPEAKER_06]: No parents showing up.
30:48.711 --> 30:49.672
[SPEAKER_06]: Three Super Bowls.
30:49.732 --> 30:50.794
[SPEAKER_06]: No parents showing up.
30:50.814 --> 30:52.015
[SPEAKER_06]: Never got the support.
30:52.400 --> 31:14.290
[SPEAKER_06]: Never never never got the support that a young kid will see or want to see at in a game and you know what I mean like juice when you when you play a game When you play a game at the end of that game You know one of the things you want to see was your mom and dad over there chin you on man so I never really had
31:14.742 --> 31:21.109
[SPEAKER_06]: that support, the only support that I had that I could see at the end of the game was my wife when I got married.
31:21.269 --> 31:32.342
[SPEAKER_06]: But high school games, walking out on the fields, you know, for senior night, college games, walking out on the field for senior night, you know, didn't have that support.
31:32.562 --> 31:43.855
[SPEAKER_06]: And, you know, one of the things that, you know, Juicide mentioned to you, you know,
31:43.970 --> 31:49.555
[SPEAKER_06]: But at that time, my biological father was released from prison from murdering my mom.
31:50.176 --> 31:52.318
[SPEAKER_06]: And I wanted to have a sit down talk with him.
31:53.099 --> 31:56.342
[SPEAKER_06]: And ask him, you know, what was that all about?
31:56.902 --> 32:13.858
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, and when I asked him, you know, even after all those years of being in prison, now my mom's dead, been dead for a long time now, I asked him, I said, hey, why did you shoot her?
32:14.699 --> 32:23.091
[SPEAKER_06]: And his answer was, because the bitch didn't do what I told her to do, okay?
32:23.932 --> 32:33.246
[SPEAKER_06]: And after that, I think it just sent me in another direction, and this happened in Miami when I was playing in Miami.
32:33.767 --> 32:43.120
[SPEAKER_06]: So, you know, obviously I went to four years, Dallas, and then I went on to the Realms
32:44.315 --> 32:47.620
[SPEAKER_06]: And we're practicing, and I think we're in training camp.
32:48.020 --> 32:53.128
[SPEAKER_06]: And Harvey, I think, comes out to get me and says, hey, you're dead died.
32:53.448 --> 32:54.029
[SPEAKER_06]: Never get it.
32:54.049 --> 32:55.732
[SPEAKER_06]: He said, hey, man, you're dead died.
32:56.453 --> 33:02.862
[SPEAKER_06]: And then I thought he was talking about my slash my uncle who raised me, yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:03.784 --> 33:05.546
[SPEAKER_06]: So I go inside the locker room.
33:06.588 --> 33:11.655
[SPEAKER_06]: And when I found out that my biological dead died,
33:12.563 --> 33:14.687
[SPEAKER_06]: took the paper ball to up through it down.
33:14.747 --> 33:17.733
[SPEAKER_06]: I said, shit, I'm going back out here to practice.
33:17.753 --> 33:21.159
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I went back, I went back out in practice.
33:21.179 --> 33:29.275
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't even, you know, saying a thing to anybody, but, you know, I just had hard feelings after that.
33:29.315 --> 33:31.719
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, it was like, you know, I've came this far.
33:32.661 --> 33:35.787
[SPEAKER_06]: And then I think I'd have been a little bit more.
33:36.205 --> 33:55.632
[SPEAKER_06]: passionate or considerate, or sincere, if he hadn't said those words that he said, but for me, never really having a mother, you know, a motherly love, you know, and never really having a father because most of my life, man, it's it's like,
33:56.084 --> 34:02.051
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, my father's were my football coaches, you know, being in high school Billy Boswell.
34:02.111 --> 34:04.714
[SPEAKER_06]: And I know you guys don't know who he is, but he was the father figure.
34:04.774 --> 34:21.113
[SPEAKER_06]: He's a man that was responsible for me, even going to 14 military academy, giving me an opportunity to be able to go play college football because I didn't have the grades, and I was just a talented young kid that, you know, was scared to get in trouble, but
34:21.262 --> 34:40.688
[SPEAKER_06]: play ball but always had that the right person to replace that father figure on every level and then when I get to college you know that that father figure became you know Bill Lewis Bob
34:41.292 --> 34:49.742
[SPEAKER_06]: And I think Bob Floyd, his son, was the offensive coordinator for Houston Texans, what, a year ago.
34:49.762 --> 34:51.644
[SPEAKER_02]: He's the Dolphins offensive coordinator now.
34:51.664 --> 34:52.686
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's a Dolphins.
34:52.886 --> 34:53.026
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
34:53.527 --> 34:53.947
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, yeah.
34:54.007 --> 34:55.569
[SPEAKER_06]: So when, yeah.
34:55.629 --> 35:00.075
[SPEAKER_06]: So when he was a kid, he was a kid walking around there, loos, not he known.
35:01.757 --> 35:01.917
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
35:01.937 --> 35:02.838
[SPEAKER_06]: Bob Floyd.
35:02.858 --> 35:02.958
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
35:02.978 --> 35:03.699
[SPEAKER_06]: Bob Floyd.
35:04.039 --> 35:04.940
[SPEAKER_06]: Yes.
35:05.301 --> 35:08.885
[SPEAKER_02]: Both the slow boys are of the Dolphins.
35:08.985 --> 35:11.248
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
35:11.819 --> 35:32.221
[SPEAKER_06]: on Bob Slurick went to Dallas the year after we won the Peach Bowl and he worked with the defensive backs with Dave Campo and when Dallas is in a Bob told me that he says when Dallas is in the meter room and Jack there real could not get it done anymore.
35:32.522 --> 35:41.792
[SPEAKER_06]: Jim it was looking for a middle line backer and Bob told him said, hey look, why don't you
35:42.346 --> 35:44.550
[SPEAKER_06]: every down player, the whole nine.
35:45.231 --> 35:51.481
[SPEAKER_06]: And I really feel that Bob was a big responsibility of why I was drafted first round.
35:52.603 --> 35:59.615
[SPEAKER_06]: So Bob was just always in my corner, but he was an outside line by the coach at East Carolina when I was there.
36:00.216 --> 36:04.523
[SPEAKER_06]: He was instrumental, big part of the defense.
36:05.498 --> 36:08.160
[SPEAKER_06]: just a great person, man, just a great person.
36:08.341 --> 36:10.042
[SPEAKER_06]: And because I did everything right.
36:10.062 --> 36:12.845
[SPEAKER_06]: And he used to just come and drop a little nuggets in my ear.
36:12.885 --> 36:15.647
[SPEAKER_06]: He says, hey, man, you're doing everything right.
36:15.787 --> 36:25.376
[SPEAKER_06]: I see you in the weight room, you know, self-oJ, man, when I was in college and any of my teammates, I challenged you guys.
36:25.436 --> 36:28.859
[SPEAKER_06]: If you find any of my teammates, I send you to roster that year.
36:29.219 --> 36:35.505
[SPEAKER_06]: They'll tell you Friday, Saturday nights at East Carolina,
36:36.076 --> 36:50.093
[SPEAKER_06]: Because I read it all man they they had their drinks out maybe I'll be walking out of the dorm room I have my belt on my shoulder and I had to walk to the wait room because I wait room was off site It wasn't it was old school.
36:50.113 --> 36:56.921
[SPEAKER_06]: So it was at a warehouse and I walked to the wait room and I lived about 8 9 10 o'clock PM.
36:57.422 --> 37:01.206
[SPEAKER_06]: I come back everybody wasted everybody drunk You know
37:01.793 --> 37:03.074
[SPEAKER_06]: I was just the odd man.
37:03.354 --> 37:04.355
[SPEAKER_06]: I was the odd man.
37:04.375 --> 37:05.236
[SPEAKER_02]: We haven't met, don't you?
37:05.276 --> 37:06.918
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you just haven't met, don't you?
37:06.938 --> 37:07.258
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
37:07.278 --> 37:08.539
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
37:08.559 --> 37:14.665
[SPEAKER_06]: I had met, I had met, I had met OJ, but I've always heard like this like you just like used to lift me.
37:14.725 --> 37:16.867
[SPEAKER_07]: I used to just get up and run all the time, man.
37:17.047 --> 37:17.808
[SPEAKER_07]: I just ran.
37:18.028 --> 37:23.213
[SPEAKER_07]: I'd get up and like, you know, I still have a couple of cocktails, maybe, but I just ran, man.
37:23.353 --> 37:29.098
[SPEAKER_07]: I just go out of house and I just I'll run three, five, six miles, man, and then you know, just running.
37:29.298 --> 37:30.940
[SPEAKER_07]: That's all.
37:30.920 --> 37:38.369
[SPEAKER_07]: I always was a runner man, not a speedy run as we all know, but I could run this just for for days, man, but that's crazy.
37:39.270 --> 37:40.091
[SPEAKER_07]: That was my thing.
37:40.111 --> 37:43.655
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that built that built endurance at built endurance.
37:43.815 --> 37:54.247
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, juice, I didn't, you know, man, I come from a poor educated background, you know, with people, nobody graduated from anything where I'm from.
37:54.607 --> 37:58.632
[SPEAKER_06]: And I still think the towns are little like that, man, where they're behind.
37:59.422 --> 38:06.013
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, there's been more people that come out there that done a lot better education wise, but it took me a while to learn this.
38:06.033 --> 38:19.776
[SPEAKER_06]: So things that you guys even knew at Miami, you know, I didn't know if I could do this all over again and mentally be and tune with things better, you know, then I would be that much of a greater player.
38:20.431 --> 38:50.370
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, it was just having to wear with all, you know, some things to just understand, study, you know, that type of thing, and if I could encourage any athlete that's playing the day, man, it's like, you know, having a physical ability is great, but understand, you know, the defense, or understand the offense, and understand what you're getting involved in each week and follow the game plan, study,
38:50.705 --> 38:54.538
[SPEAKER_06]: Yours, what is how I try to help my boys on this play this game?
38:55.040 --> 38:57.930
[SPEAKER_00]: What have going bankrupt was the best thing that happened to you?
38:58.282 --> 39:03.689
[SPEAKER_00]: Whether it's your wages being garnished, car repossessed, house foreclosed, or you're suffocating with that.
39:03.909 --> 39:07.794
[SPEAKER_00]: A good bankruptcy attorney can give you peace of mind that you need and deserve.
39:07.915 --> 39:13.422
[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Chad Van Horn from Van Horn Law Group, and I've personally seen people thrive after filing for bankruptcy.
39:14.022 --> 39:17.006
[SPEAKER_00]: The shame of bankruptcy is just a boy to keep you in debt forever.
39:17.667 --> 39:21.072
[SPEAKER_00]: There is no shame to work with Van Horn Law Group to get rid of your debt for good.
39:21.372 --> 39:23.695
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're ready to get your life back, call us today.
39:23.935 --> 39:25.217
[SPEAKER_00]: Say, I'm last venue.
39:25.568 --> 39:29.835
[SPEAKER_02]: So Robert, that's kind of where I want to go with my next question.
39:29.875 --> 39:37.767
[SPEAKER_02]: We're balling up part of the script here and just hearing what you just shared with us and it's hard to gloss over that and go right back into football.
39:38.469 --> 39:44.438
[SPEAKER_02]: I just wonder with so much that was taken from you from a familiar standpoint.
39:44.992 --> 39:51.682
[SPEAKER_02]: how much did that inspire you or impact you in the way you invest in the family that you built?
39:51.803 --> 39:54.847
[SPEAKER_02]: Not the family you inherited, but the family, right?
39:54.867 --> 40:08.188
[SPEAKER_02]: Because you couldn't control that and the fact that you overcame it is remarkable in and of itself, but the family that you built with your wife, how did your, I've just never heard anything like that.
40:08.228 --> 40:12.855
[SPEAKER_02]: You're upbringing impact the way that you've invested in your own family.
40:13.578 --> 40:38.274
[SPEAKER_06]: So, self the best way I can answer that question is that, you know, from the very beginning from year one of being a rookie in NFL, the only way I knew how to change the way I was living and that I was going to build a family was to, you know, play football in the NFL.
40:38.595 --> 40:40.438
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't know anything else.
40:40.578 --> 40:42.100
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't know anything else.
40:42.383 --> 40:45.707
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't know nothing about being a businessman, none of that stuff.
40:46.328 --> 40:49.231
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I didn't think graduating from college.
40:49.311 --> 40:52.495
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, okay, if I graduate, I still got to look for a job somewhere.
40:52.595 --> 40:57.161
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, you know, and college only just a college degree.
40:57.181 --> 41:00.565
[SPEAKER_06]: Only just gets you ahead of the guy that doesn't have the degree.
41:00.645 --> 41:05.651
[SPEAKER_06]: So playing football and making money was my go.
41:05.711 --> 41:07.834
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I want to make enough money.
41:08.320 --> 41:10.684
[SPEAKER_06]: So I can have a wife, some kids.
41:11.004 --> 41:12.687
[SPEAKER_06]: I want my house like the braided bunch.
41:13.488 --> 41:14.851
[SPEAKER_06]: And it was like the braided bunch.
41:15.371 --> 41:16.854
[SPEAKER_06]: But that was my desire.
41:16.934 --> 41:19.338
[SPEAKER_06]: Everybody else was going for Super Bowls.
41:20.099 --> 41:21.862
[SPEAKER_06]: I wasn't even going for Super Bowls.
41:21.882 --> 41:24.146
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't care about being in a limelight.
41:24.166 --> 41:25.889
[SPEAKER_06]: I cared about coming home every day.
41:26.450 --> 41:27.992
[SPEAKER_06]: And my wife doesn't have to work.
41:28.733 --> 41:30.176
[SPEAKER_06]: She's taking care of the kids.
41:30.676 --> 41:34.142
[SPEAKER_06]: My dream came true long before my career.
41:35.185 --> 41:35.786
[SPEAKER_06]: was over.
41:36.448 --> 41:37.150
[SPEAKER_06]: It came true.
41:37.811 --> 41:42.141
[SPEAKER_06]: And that was to build a family and raise them and be there with them.
41:42.662 --> 41:45.489
[SPEAKER_06]: You'll be able to educate them inside of a house.
41:45.549 --> 41:49.077
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know if you guys know, but my wife homeschooled.
41:49.698 --> 41:52.542
[SPEAKER_06]: all three of our sons in Miami.
41:53.083 --> 41:53.844
[SPEAKER_06]: She homeschooled.
41:53.904 --> 41:54.625
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know that.
41:54.985 --> 41:56.587
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, she homeschooled them.
41:56.607 --> 42:05.840
[SPEAKER_06]: And then, you know, the activities for the local schools, whether it's football, soccer, whatever that is, she was able to get them and roll in that.
42:06.100 --> 42:08.864
[SPEAKER_06]: So those were the rules, those were the laws at that time.
42:08.884 --> 42:10.146
[SPEAKER_06]: I only know if they changed.
42:10.186 --> 42:13.410
[SPEAKER_06]: And then, you know, obviously when we left there,
42:13.880 --> 42:14.921
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, we left there.
42:14.961 --> 42:16.003
[SPEAKER_06]: She still had them home.
42:16.023 --> 42:21.831
[SPEAKER_06]: She homeschooled them all the way up until I think 67 grade.
42:22.632 --> 42:22.932
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
42:23.613 --> 42:25.555
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, homeschooled all our kids, man.
42:25.576 --> 42:31.483
[SPEAKER_06]: So, you know, my passion, my desire because of where I came from.
42:31.604 --> 42:35.569
[SPEAKER_06]: I did not want to live the way my background demonstrated.
42:36.190 --> 42:37.151
[SPEAKER_06]: It was hard, man.
42:37.231 --> 42:43.279
[SPEAKER_06]: It was hard that the food that we ate, like, like, you know, believe it or
42:43.985 --> 42:57.925
[SPEAKER_06]: I was wild as I was and I'm not saying it's all the time bad food, but I grew up on wildlife food from squirrels to raccoons, to deer, you know, we ate that kind of stuff man.
42:58.205 --> 43:08.440
[SPEAKER_06]: I mean, we ate that all the time and then we got a chance to get some chicken or pork
43:08.926 --> 43:19.662
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, that was like a delicacy, you know, but more than likely we eat, um, I mean, and the fish that we ate, I mean, it's not the fish you go by from the store.
43:20.435 --> 43:24.783
[SPEAKER_06]: You had to go, we got that fish out of the pond somewhere.
43:24.883 --> 43:26.166
[SPEAKER_07]: The pond right there?
43:26.186 --> 43:26.406
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
43:26.466 --> 43:27.729
[SPEAKER_06]: You know what it was?
43:28.129 --> 43:30.153
[SPEAKER_06]: We got the fish out of the pond, man.
43:30.173 --> 43:32.658
[SPEAKER_06]: And it's somebody's pond that's illegal to fish in.
43:32.898 --> 43:34.261
[SPEAKER_06]: We go fish in anyway.
43:34.281 --> 43:37.126
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I'm, I'm like, kid you.
43:37.146 --> 43:42.797
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, that's, that's how we ate, I mean, and then, and then pork chit lends them stuff.
43:42.777 --> 43:51.146
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, just the chicken livers and pork livers and I'm like, that's all I ate.
43:51.306 --> 43:59.576
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't have hamburger sandwiches or I didn't have the food that I ate now, you know, from the cereal.
43:59.616 --> 44:08.025
[SPEAKER_06]: I used to just look at the cereal boxes on TV or in the grocery stores and my parents won't buy it because it wasn't getting on the wick check.
44:08.697 --> 44:09.418
[SPEAKER_06]: correct.
44:09.819 --> 44:16.007
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, it was it was it was not part of it like you're not getting through the pebbles on the wick on the wick, check.
44:16.187 --> 44:19.893
[SPEAKER_07]: So like a white box doing white box just says cereal on it.
44:20.033 --> 44:27.303
[SPEAKER_06]: It just says cereal or says kicks something like that.
44:27.403 --> 44:32.410
[SPEAKER_06]: So for me, my goal was that my house is going to be different, you know.
44:33.115 --> 44:36.400
[SPEAKER_06]: My kids are going to eat better, my family's going to eat better.
44:36.600 --> 44:37.562
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to eat better.
44:38.042 --> 44:46.696
[SPEAKER_06]: It's why when I got drafted, one of the first things I did, man, was that my refrigerator had all name brand foods in it.
44:47.918 --> 44:49.199
[SPEAKER_06]: Name brand foods.
44:49.220 --> 44:54.287
[SPEAKER_06]: I wanted every city after Jax, through the Pebbles, you know, Captain Crunch.
44:54.387 --> 44:57.452
[SPEAKER_06]: I wanted all of that in there, so I can pick what I want.
44:57.837 --> 45:02.709
[SPEAKER_06]: eat it, head to the facility, you know, I was just enjoying life.
45:02.950 --> 45:06.919
[SPEAKER_06]: When I played in Miami, I enjoyed it because I enjoyed the guys.
45:07.280 --> 45:09.265
[SPEAKER_06]: I enjoyed coming there every day.
45:09.447 --> 45:10.910
[SPEAKER_06]: I enjoyed the people's self.
45:11.070 --> 45:13.414
[SPEAKER_06]: You harvey in the rest of the guys there.
45:13.434 --> 45:15.678
[SPEAKER_07]: You enjoyed Seth and Harvey, too.
45:16.239 --> 45:16.900
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh my God.
45:16.960 --> 45:17.361
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, my God.
45:17.401 --> 45:17.642
[SPEAKER_06]: Come on.
45:17.662 --> 45:18.864
[SPEAKER_06]: Now you make a sit up now.
45:18.884 --> 45:20.106
[SPEAKER_06]: You make a sit up now.
45:20.146 --> 45:22.450
[SPEAKER_06]: You make a sit up now.
45:22.470 --> 45:23.893
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, I true.
45:23.913 --> 45:24.153
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh, Jay.
45:24.915 --> 45:30.805
[SPEAKER_06]: One of the reasons I enjoyed it so much, man, is because you don't have to pay for nobody there.
45:31.146 --> 45:33.430
[SPEAKER_06]: No, nobody was going to ask you for money.
45:33.747 --> 45:35.189
[SPEAKER_06]: You go to the facility every day.
45:35.250 --> 45:36.231
[SPEAKER_06]: We take it for granted.
45:36.251 --> 45:37.173
[SPEAKER_06]: You go to the facility.
45:37.473 --> 45:40.158
[SPEAKER_06]: How many times somebody asked you for money at the facility, June?
45:41.540 --> 45:42.442
[SPEAKER_07]: Well, I had a couple players.
45:42.462 --> 45:43.844
[SPEAKER_07]: A couple teammates asked me, right?
45:43.864 --> 45:44.766
[SPEAKER_07]: I ain't going to lie, man.
45:44.806 --> 45:46.388
[SPEAKER_07]: I didn't know what teammates come up to.
45:46.508 --> 45:47.190
[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, yeah.
45:47.510 --> 45:47.871
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
45:48.151 --> 45:48.752
[SPEAKER_07]: I ain't going to lie.
45:49.834 --> 45:51.056
[SPEAKER_07]: It's still on me.
45:51.256 --> 45:53.540
[SPEAKER_07]: They still owe me money from back in the 90s.
45:54.141 --> 45:55.243
[SPEAKER_07]: What would they do when?
45:55.383 --> 45:56.024
[SPEAKER_07]: Exactly.
45:56.044 --> 45:56.666
[SPEAKER_06]: What were they doing?
45:56.686 --> 45:58.168
[SPEAKER_06]: I ain't never asked you for money.
45:58.756 --> 46:08.364
[SPEAKER_06]: I know that's right, I never asked you for money man, but I'm like, it was a place of, you know, even though we battle, we practice, it was a place of peace, man.
46:08.444 --> 46:10.386
[SPEAKER_06]: It's like everybody there was happy.
46:10.406 --> 46:20.134
[SPEAKER_06]: Everybody in the place was, you know, darn there a million there, so how could you be, how could you be depressed in a place like that, man?
46:20.234 --> 46:28.341
[SPEAKER_06]: It's like, people take for granted the opportunities that they have, you know, being in a place like an NFL,
46:29.114 --> 46:29.895
[SPEAKER_06]: locker room.
46:30.557 --> 46:35.886
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, they come over there to the press and word about things that's happening outside of there.
46:36.087 --> 46:37.008
[SPEAKER_06]: Like I enjoyed it.
46:37.108 --> 46:38.531
[SPEAKER_06]: I enjoyed every minute of it.
46:39.112 --> 46:47.627
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, and yeah, I was going fight for a Super Bowl and we were on the way until we got the Jacksonville and Jacksonville did what they did.
46:47.667 --> 46:48.068
[SPEAKER_06]: And
46:48.470 --> 46:52.895
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, they did it all over again as Jim and I think it's too scoring.
46:52.915 --> 46:54.516
[SPEAKER_02]: So Robert before you.
46:54.537 --> 46:55.297
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no doubt.
46:55.678 --> 46:59.642
[SPEAKER_02]: Let me let me go back a little bit to you getting to Miami and you just mentioned Jim.
46:59.682 --> 47:01.204
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so that's kind of where I want to start.
47:01.844 --> 47:02.205
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
47:02.645 --> 47:08.231
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, fast forward through the Dallas stuff and it's crazy to say that you're like, I wasn't motivated by Super Bowl's.
47:08.491 --> 47:10.053
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's easy.
47:10.193 --> 47:18.342
[SPEAKER_02]: You've got three in your first really out of the way.
47:18.322 --> 47:36.982
[SPEAKER_02]: the a lifetime of achievements right in that regard two years in St. Louis, but the way things ended in Dallas, you know, Jimmy left from what I have read you and Jimmy, maybe the relationship was a little contentious towards the end, and then yet 98, he needs another linebacker.
47:37.022 --> 47:38.103
[SPEAKER_02]: He's got Zach Thomas.
47:38.123 --> 47:41.427
[SPEAKER_02]: He knows he's got an absolute rock star there.
47:41.407 --> 47:43.489
[SPEAKER_02]: But he brings you back in.
47:43.529 --> 47:46.611
[SPEAKER_02]: Did things change with regards to your relationship?
47:46.692 --> 47:49.674
[SPEAKER_02]: Was the relationship maybe not as bad as the things that I read?
47:49.694 --> 47:51.536
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just trying to understand them.
47:51.556 --> 47:53.457
[SPEAKER_02]: But we understand what you loved when you got here.
47:53.838 --> 48:01.284
[SPEAKER_02]: But I want to kind of know the motivation that had you land in here and say, OK, I'm about to go through this again with Jimmy Johnson.
48:01.304 --> 48:04.807
[SPEAKER_06]: So obviously, guys, you know the type of players we had at Dallas.
48:05.187 --> 48:07.089
[SPEAKER_06]: And you know, from the Michaels.
48:07.189 --> 48:09.191
[SPEAKER_06]: And you guys seen a Netflix special.
48:09.211 --> 48:10.772
[SPEAKER_06]: You saw all of that stuff.
48:11.090 --> 48:16.415
[SPEAKER_06]: all of that crazy stuff was going down and like I said, I wasn't the type that hung out.
48:16.616 --> 48:18.097
[SPEAKER_06]: Those were good guys, man.
48:18.137 --> 48:19.258
[SPEAKER_06]: But I was a young guy.
48:19.398 --> 48:24.023
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't understand, you know, and Michael was Jim is guy.
48:24.564 --> 48:25.765
[SPEAKER_06]: That's hands down.
48:25.825 --> 48:26.746
[SPEAKER_06]: That was Jim is guy.
48:27.246 --> 48:35.595
[SPEAKER_06]: And Mike pretty much, when I said ran the team, you know, if there's something he didn't like, you know,
48:36.082 --> 48:38.871
[SPEAKER_06]: Probably there's going to be a little bit of changes now.
48:39.433 --> 48:41.600
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I'm not going to take anything from Jimmy.
48:41.681 --> 48:44.349
[SPEAKER_06]: Jimmy Johnson ran that football team.
48:44.430 --> 48:46.175
[SPEAKER_06]: That was Jimmy Johnson's team.
48:47.299 --> 48:47.560
[SPEAKER_06]: And...
48:48.063 --> 48:59.886
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, Mike and I but it heads a lot and you know, we've had a chance to talk about this afterwards and Mike said that Hey, I had to test you and see if you were ready, you know, you had to be ready.
49:00.327 --> 49:04.735
[SPEAKER_06]: So I had to test you and and I'm sending myself Man, that's that's bullshit, man.
49:04.755 --> 49:06.679
[SPEAKER_06]: You could have did it a different way, but
49:07.148 --> 49:08.369
[SPEAKER_06]: you know, he was young too.
49:08.469 --> 49:11.132
[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm not going, I'm not going to take his head off.
49:11.152 --> 49:34.793
[SPEAKER_06]: But the thing that happened to me that I could not understand, you know, I made NFC look at a year, my first year and then the second year come in and you know, if people can remember Buffalo beat us, the red skin beat us, we had their terrible plane ride back with Jim and just cousin everybody out on the plane and then I stood up on the plane to let
49:35.127 --> 49:37.773
[SPEAKER_06]: Charles Hayley sit down and play cards with the guys.
49:37.813 --> 49:42.784
[SPEAKER_06]: They charge your chemist's move, a couple of the guys wanted to play cards.
49:43.185 --> 49:46.752
[SPEAKER_06]: So I just kind of stood up, let him sit my seat because the four were together.
49:47.254 --> 49:51.162
[SPEAKER_06]: Jimmy comes down and Jimmy says to me, he says,
49:51.918 --> 49:52.679
[SPEAKER_06]: where's your seat?
49:52.840 --> 49:54.502
[SPEAKER_06]: I said, what charge is sitting in the seat?
49:54.522 --> 49:55.624
[SPEAKER_06]: He said, I don't give it down.
49:55.644 --> 49:58.108
[SPEAKER_06]: You find a seat or your ass is off the team.
49:58.829 --> 50:00.973
[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm like, man, one of y'all got to move.
50:01.073 --> 50:06.322
[SPEAKER_06]: So I sit down and Jim is just, he's just pissed off because we lost to the rest games.
50:06.883 --> 50:14.055
[SPEAKER_06]: And I felt like the whole time, I stayed on Jim's bad side from a rookie.
50:14.075 --> 50:18.482
[SPEAKER_06]: He really didn't care a lot about rookies anyway.
50:19.053 --> 50:27.946
[SPEAKER_06]: He and I just butted heads so much and littered that I know that I wasn't like by a lot of players on their team at that time.
50:28.527 --> 50:38.642
[SPEAKER_06]: And I just wasn't one of his favorites, but obviously because of Salar Cap and I think Salar Cap had just started at that time, you know, they couldn't do nothing with me.
50:38.822 --> 50:47.355
[SPEAKER_06]: So at the beginning of my second year after the third game, Jimmy calls me into the office and he says,
50:48.061 --> 50:49.362
[SPEAKER_06]: And I took this personal.
50:49.542 --> 50:50.884
[SPEAKER_06]: He says, you're not playing well.
50:51.084 --> 50:56.529
[SPEAKER_06]: And I said, why are you saying that, Coach, he says, I think you're wife and you're son.
50:56.649 --> 51:00.553
[SPEAKER_06]: At the time, I just had a son that was capable of all the son.
51:00.673 --> 51:03.616
[SPEAKER_06]: He says, I think you're wife and you're son as a distraction to you.
51:04.537 --> 51:06.679
[SPEAKER_06]: And I said, there more motivation to me.
51:06.739 --> 51:10.242
[SPEAKER_06]: He says, hey, look, this is what I'm doing.
51:10.383 --> 51:17.089
[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm moving can to the middle and I'm bringing
51:17.457 --> 51:42.165
[SPEAKER_06]: I couldn't believe it, you know, so I went out there to press and for eight games, I was either inactive or I was back in somebody up and probably about after the eighth game can not entour his bicep and he really couldn't use his right arm anymore and Jimmy started easing me back into the game, but if he could avoid it,
51:42.820 --> 51:56.143
[SPEAKER_06]: He did, I mean, the border player named Bobby Abrams, Bobby came from the giants, they used him on some plays, got their miles, they used him on some plays, um, I just felt like he had it out for me.
51:56.203 --> 52:01.572
[SPEAKER_06]: So after the second year, you know, here we are going in the Super Bowl.
52:02.260 --> 52:06.868
[SPEAKER_06]: you know, during the playoffs, we're running for the, we're running for the Super Bowl.
52:06.988 --> 52:23.678
[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm trying to be active every game because now, you know, there's less games, more people watching more national attention, and I'm going to Jimmy pretty much every week, you know, asking them, hey, I'm not going to be active and, you know,
52:24.181 --> 52:33.673
[SPEAKER_06]: a couple of games I wasn't active, a couple of games I was active, and then I remember begging him for the Super Bowl to be your active for the Super Bowl.
52:33.773 --> 52:36.316
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I don't care if I play, I just want to be active.
52:36.356 --> 52:39.019
[SPEAKER_06]: He says, whether you're going to be active, you're going to have to play.
52:40.000 --> 52:43.625
[SPEAKER_06]: And I play special teams and some gold line defenses and stuff.
52:43.645 --> 52:47.550
[SPEAKER_06]: So I didn't participate a whole lot in the second Super Bowl.
52:47.730 --> 52:53.597
[SPEAKER_06]: And then you guys both know after the second
52:54.303 --> 53:03.214
[SPEAKER_06]: And then right after the break-up, I mean, hell, I celebrated, I'm like, oh, he's gone.
53:03.234 --> 53:05.597
[SPEAKER_06]: He's gone.
53:05.677 --> 53:11.103
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I don't have to deal with him no more.
53:11.183 --> 53:12.725
[SPEAKER_06]: I swear I don't have to deal with him.
53:12.745 --> 53:16.630
[SPEAKER_06]: And then Barry Switzer called me and says, hey, bring your ass back down here.
53:17.191 --> 53:18.572
[SPEAKER_06]: We got to get this thing going.
53:18.652 --> 53:21.616
[SPEAKER_06]: I said, well, coach, I thought Dallas was going to trade me or something.
53:21.876 --> 53:22.437
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't know.
53:22.906 --> 53:26.232
[SPEAKER_06]: and very gave me new life.
53:26.573 --> 53:27.515
[SPEAKER_06]: He believed in me.
53:27.595 --> 53:28.396
[SPEAKER_06]: I played well.
53:29.438 --> 53:35.590
[SPEAKER_06]: Then obviously, I went to the Realms and under Rich Brooks, they brought me there.
53:35.810 --> 53:46.129
[SPEAKER_06]: And then after two years, it was like, that's when I began to learn the business of the NFL because of the,
53:47.037 --> 53:51.162
[SPEAKER_06]: the business side, like I made a lot of money, Leslie or Neil made a lot of money.
53:51.182 --> 53:55.067
[SPEAKER_06]: We were the first two guys to get cut after a terrible season.
53:55.828 --> 54:04.178
[SPEAKER_06]: And then I'm sitting at home, you know, I've made a lot of friends in St. Louis and I'm sitting at home and I bought my home in Orlando.
54:04.218 --> 54:06.200
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I'm just gonna buy a home here.
54:06.240 --> 54:07.482
[SPEAKER_06]: This is where we wanna live.
54:07.842 --> 54:10.485
[SPEAKER_06]: My wife likes Orlando.
54:10.545 --> 54:11.927
[SPEAKER_06]: We like going to Disney World.
54:11.947 --> 54:16.032
[SPEAKER_06]: She bought season tickets.
54:16.788 --> 54:28.103
[SPEAKER_06]: March of 98 when I got cut and we bought the home there and then it was a wedding that was in St. Louis that I promised some friends that I'd go to.
54:28.684 --> 54:36.474
[SPEAKER_06]: So we were packing our kids up getting ready to go to this wedding and phone ring and at the time had house phones.
54:36.555 --> 54:38.858
[SPEAKER_06]: It had cell phones but we had house phones too.
54:39.118 --> 54:39.639
[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
54:39.739 --> 54:39.859
[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
54:40.480 --> 54:48.681
[SPEAKER_06]: And in fact, we see, so the phone rang and my older son, he was a small kid at the time.
54:48.701 --> 54:51.688
[SPEAKER_06]: He said, Dad, it's for you and it was Jimmy Johnson.
54:53.002 --> 54:54.785
[SPEAKER_06]: It was Jimmy Johnson on the phone.
54:55.325 --> 55:01.675
[SPEAKER_06]: And he said that he said, he said, I like to know if you want to come play for the dolphins.
55:02.176 --> 55:03.658
[SPEAKER_06]: He says, I think you got a chance.
55:03.758 --> 55:05.621
[SPEAKER_06]: I got a hell of a middle line backer.
55:06.162 --> 55:07.123
[SPEAKER_06]: He's going to play middle.
55:07.323 --> 55:09.186
[SPEAKER_06]: I'll like for you to play outside.
55:09.386 --> 55:11.309
[SPEAKER_06]: And I said, I can do that coach.
55:12.431 --> 55:16.357
[SPEAKER_06]: I was kind of excited because I thought Jimmy hated me.
55:16.557 --> 55:17.559
[SPEAKER_06]: I thought he hated me.
55:18.520 --> 55:21.945
[SPEAKER_06]: And when he said that to me,
55:22.162 --> 55:38.748
[SPEAKER_06]: that really gave me life because after I got cut and I mean, and every player will tell you this, when you get cut, you feel like, Dad, I can't play no more or they think I'm terrible, you know, you get that feeling that you don't have it no more.
55:39.349 --> 55:43.977
[SPEAKER_06]: And when Jimmy said to me, I want you to come play for me.
55:44.057 --> 55:49.165
[SPEAKER_06]: I say, well, you know, here I'm scared to tell him, I'm going to
55:49.752 --> 56:01.608
[SPEAKER_06]: So I said, I said coach on our way out the door to go to a wedding and he says he says, okay, after wedding can you fly here?
56:01.648 --> 56:02.489
[SPEAKER_06]: I said yes sir.
56:03.270 --> 56:06.875
[SPEAKER_06]: So he says one more thing though, Robert.
56:06.895 --> 56:10.559
[SPEAKER_06]: I don't want you talking about what happened in Dallas.
56:10.579 --> 56:14.865
[SPEAKER_06]: He says, when you get here,
56:15.436 --> 56:24.166
[SPEAKER_06]: He says, when you get here, you talk about nothing that happened in Dallas, you don't talk about our conversation, you don't talk about nothing.
56:24.186 --> 56:24.967
[SPEAKER_06]: Is that understood?
56:24.987 --> 56:41.967
[SPEAKER_06]: I say, yes sir, he says, all right, you let me know when you get to St. Louis and when you're flying out and then we're flying here to Miami to sign your contract.
56:42.605 --> 56:47.152
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, he told me, he says, I think it was Anthony's last name.
56:47.933 --> 56:53.582
[SPEAKER_06]: Outside linebacker, he from Auburn Harris, yeah, yeah, yeah, Anthony Harris.
56:53.622 --> 56:56.386
[SPEAKER_06]: He says Anthony Harris is playing in front of you.
56:56.566 --> 57:02.015
[SPEAKER_06]: You're going to have to battle him and not to discredit Anthony.
57:02.035 --> 57:03.597
[SPEAKER_06]: I thought Anthony was a good lineback.
57:03.637 --> 57:06.722
[SPEAKER_06]: He was fast to a boy could run, but right.
57:07.057 --> 57:10.661
[SPEAKER_06]: But I know I was more physical than him, right?
57:10.781 --> 57:14.204
[SPEAKER_06]: I knew I was more physical and I knew that's what Jimmy wanted.
57:14.384 --> 57:21.151
[SPEAKER_06]: But you know, when I got there and we finally had a conversation, we sat down, we talked.
57:21.572 --> 57:32.743
[SPEAKER_06]: He shared things with me that, you know, and Dallas, he wanted me to grow up, you know, be the kind of player that he think I am and because Jimmy believed in me,
57:33.247 --> 57:34.089
[SPEAKER_06]: in Miami.
57:34.250 --> 57:39.062
[SPEAKER_06]: I wish she would have believed in me and Dallas because he believed in me at Miami.
57:39.383 --> 57:43.634
[SPEAKER_06]: I think that's also another reason why I played really well.
57:44.236 --> 57:46.682
[SPEAKER_06]: He believed in me.
57:48.063 --> 57:49.825
[SPEAKER_07]: Well, I mean, I'm glad you like Jimmy.
57:50.526 --> 57:51.687
[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, yeah.
57:52.347 --> 57:54.169
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
57:54.209 --> 57:54.630
[SPEAKER_07]: He didn't.
57:54.670 --> 57:55.430
[SPEAKER_06]: He didn't.
57:55.631 --> 57:56.131
[SPEAKER_06]: He didn't.
57:56.191 --> 57:56.592
[SPEAKER_06]: He didn't.
57:57.052 --> 58:01.256
[SPEAKER_06]: Well, I tell you what, man, I don't know.
58:01.417 --> 58:06.181
[SPEAKER_06]: It's the Hall of Fame stuff when players, when players or coaches go to the Hall of Fame.
58:06.262 --> 58:11.106
[SPEAKER_06]: Is that stuff automated, automatic, generated or something where you get the invitation?
58:11.627 --> 58:13.489
[SPEAKER_06]: Jimmy Johnson is going to Hall of Fame.
58:14.009 --> 58:14.610
[SPEAKER_06]: But do they?
58:15.097 --> 58:19.905
[SPEAKER_02]: invite you, you know, they're, they're, they're given a list.
58:19.925 --> 58:33.266
[SPEAKER_02]: So, so, so the haul, the haul has a nice system, but, but the, the haul of Famer, the in Trini, and or his team has to provide a list to the haul for that to, if that's what you're talking about.
58:33.326 --> 58:38.394
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they don't just, they don't just randomly look at everybody who's on the, you know, who they ever so.
58:39.355 --> 58:42.420
[SPEAKER_06]: So I kind of figured that
58:42.653 --> 58:49.593
[SPEAKER_06]: I got the invitation from Jimmy to come to his Hall of Fame to all the events, all of that stuff.
58:50.155 --> 58:51.820
[SPEAKER_06]: At first I said it, I said,
58:52.610 --> 58:56.373
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I just noticed dude ain't invite me to his Hall of Fame.
58:56.393 --> 59:03.599
[SPEAKER_06]: Well, I guess I'm like, because we're not, we're not that tight, but, right?
59:03.619 --> 59:11.606
[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm like, I looked it over and I looked it over and believe it or not, it was my first time going to the Hall of Fame.
59:11.706 --> 59:22.515
[SPEAKER_06]: I've gotten invited to the Hall of Fame by Charles Haley, Larry Allen, Reston, peace, a bunch of guys that's gone.
59:23.558 --> 59:26.182
[SPEAKER_06]: because I probably would never get there.
59:26.382 --> 59:27.104
[SPEAKER_06]: I was salty.
59:27.184 --> 59:28.486
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I ain't going.
59:28.506 --> 59:28.966
[SPEAKER_06]: I ain't going.
59:29.587 --> 59:35.136
[SPEAKER_06]: But then something hit me when I got the invitation from Jimmy.
59:35.897 --> 59:44.631
[SPEAKER_06]: When I got the invitation from Jimmy, then I'm like, you know what, Manisha, I'm going to this one.
59:44.651 --> 59:48.537
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, this is strange, but I feel like I have to go to this one.
59:49.539 --> 59:49.819
[SPEAKER_06]: And,
59:50.440 --> 59:56.850
[SPEAKER_06]: And we went, man, and the way Jimmy and Brace, he wasn't the same Jimmy Johnson.
59:58.894 --> 01:00:01.918
[SPEAKER_06]: He's not the same guy, the way he embraced me.
01:00:01.979 --> 01:00:05.504
[SPEAKER_06]: He's like, Robert, you are a hell of a player for us.
01:00:05.544 --> 01:00:07.548
[SPEAKER_06]: That's why I drafted you, you know.
01:00:07.928 --> 01:00:14.659
[SPEAKER_05]: And I'm looking at him, I'm like, what, I'm like, man, I'm like, and then I feel like,
01:00:15.095 --> 01:00:17.437
[SPEAKER_06]: Shit, I had another drink, man.
01:00:18.078 --> 01:00:37.077
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I got the invite from him and I was just, he laid it.
01:00:37.277 --> 01:00:43.363
[SPEAKER_06]: I didn't know what to say, but, you know, again, I looked at my email a couple times and
01:00:43.732 --> 01:00:50.221
[SPEAKER_06]: We got our stuff together and the only thing I didn't like about the Hall of Fame are a whole tails that are there.
01:00:50.361 --> 01:00:52.204
[SPEAKER_06]: I know y'all know about the whole tails.
01:00:52.224 --> 01:00:52.745
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh yeah.
01:00:53.426 --> 01:00:54.267
[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of high.
01:00:54.287 --> 01:00:59.554
[SPEAKER_06]: It's kind of high on me, but other than that, you know, I enjoyed myself.
01:00:59.715 --> 01:01:08.507
[SPEAKER_06]: It was my first time then, you know, obviously, you know, I got certain guys I said if this guy goes to the Hall of Fame and believe it or not,
01:01:09.466 --> 01:01:23.037
[SPEAKER_06]: you know, the whole time, I'm like believing and praying for Zach to get there and and with Zach got nominated and then he got chosen and then with Jimmy walks to his house and then he gets there, you know.
01:01:23.185 --> 01:01:24.247
[SPEAKER_06]: I was so excited.
01:01:24.287 --> 01:01:27.712
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like, I'm going, I'm going to Zax, you know, I'm going to be there.
01:01:27.732 --> 01:01:29.915
[SPEAKER_06]: And that's what I think juice I saw you there.
01:01:29.955 --> 01:01:31.197
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
01:01:31.217 --> 01:01:32.379
[SPEAKER_02]: We all got that in, right?
01:01:32.399 --> 01:01:33.100
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
01:01:33.120 --> 01:01:45.098
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, so I'm like, so I'm going to that one, you know, and then my other guy, Darren Woodson, that's my dude, you know, he should have been in there this year.
01:01:45.138 --> 01:01:47.361
[SPEAKER_06]: Then I don't know why Darren Woodson is not there.
01:01:47.501 --> 01:01:50.125
[SPEAKER_06]: I swear, I don't know what this guy's done wrong.
01:01:50.245 --> 01:01:51.387
[SPEAKER_06]: I know we're not talking about.
01:01:51.974 --> 01:01:57.321
[SPEAKER_02]: a former dolphin, but we got too much to fight for Richmond Web and Mark Clayton.
01:01:57.341 --> 01:01:58.542
[SPEAKER_02]: We can't be talking about it.
01:01:58.562 --> 01:01:59.523
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we can't be talking about it.
01:01:59.543 --> 01:02:00.985
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we can't be talking about it.
01:02:01.005 --> 01:02:01.365
[SPEAKER_02]: Man, Mark Clayton.
01:02:01.385 --> 01:02:02.287
[SPEAKER_02]: We got work to do.
01:02:02.607 --> 01:02:03.368
[SPEAKER_02]: We got work to do.
01:02:03.388 --> 01:02:04.449
[SPEAKER_02]: We got a lot of work to do.
01:02:04.469 --> 01:02:08.134
[SPEAKER_02]: Mark Clayton is not in this hall of fame, man.
01:02:08.174 --> 01:02:09.015
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't get me started.
01:02:09.095 --> 01:02:10.156
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to send you something.
01:02:10.196 --> 01:02:11.197
[SPEAKER_02]: Mark Clayton is not.
01:02:11.298 --> 01:02:12.559
[SPEAKER_02]: He's not even close.
01:02:12.599 --> 01:02:13.500
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, man.
01:02:13.520 --> 01:02:20.749
[SPEAKER_05]: Look, look, when I was small, when I was small, man,
01:02:22.467 --> 01:02:22.888
[SPEAKER_05]: What's it?
01:02:22.908 --> 01:02:23.549
[SPEAKER_05]: Net more.
01:02:24.330 --> 01:02:24.851
[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, sir.
01:02:25.512 --> 01:02:26.594
[SPEAKER_05]: Oh my gosh.
01:02:27.535 --> 01:02:28.056
[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, sir.
01:02:28.377 --> 01:02:28.998
[SPEAKER_02]: Now juicy.
01:02:29.018 --> 01:02:32.003
[SPEAKER_02]: He's been looking at Robert's been looking at us with these shades the whole time.
01:02:32.063 --> 01:02:41.158
[SPEAKER_06]: There's no wonder that he's a Mark Clayton fan with his right hand and I remember I remember to run in back Tony Nathan back in them days.
01:02:41.358 --> 01:02:42.280
[SPEAKER_06]: Yes, sir.
01:02:42.400 --> 01:02:43.061
[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, sir.
01:02:43.081 --> 01:02:45.184
[SPEAKER_06]: I love my gosh, man.
01:02:45.285 --> 01:02:46.787
[SPEAKER_06]: I'm like these.
01:02:47.273 --> 01:02:52.183
[SPEAKER_06]: Oh man, the the dolphins now and the dolphins now the black whale brothers.
01:02:52.524 --> 01:02:53.546
[SPEAKER_06]: I remember them.
01:02:53.926 --> 01:02:54.548
[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
01:02:54.568 --> 01:02:55.610
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't deep things.
01:02:55.630 --> 01:02:57.173
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't lose brothers.
01:02:57.534 --> 01:02:58.335
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what they call them.
01:02:58.376 --> 01:02:59.357
[SPEAKER_02]: The brews brother.
01:03:00.059 --> 01:03:00.560
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
01:03:00.580 --> 01:03:02.784
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, the killer bees would a killer bees.
01:03:03.326 --> 01:03:04.067
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, sir.
01:03:04.655 --> 01:03:12.570
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, see, see Seth when he was when he was after lifted, you know, weights, you know, at Eastern Carolina whereabouts is party man.
01:03:12.590 --> 01:03:14.273
[SPEAKER_07]: He was actually doing some dolphin history.
01:03:14.313 --> 01:03:16.538
[SPEAKER_07]: He was doing some dolphin history in my mind.
01:03:16.578 --> 01:03:18.782
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I got along at East Carolina.
01:03:19.505 --> 01:03:23.429
[SPEAKER_06]: Man, I studied the history of football.
01:03:23.470 --> 01:03:30.438
[SPEAKER_06]: I think that's that's important for young players to do too, you know, not just respect the guys that's came through, man.
01:03:30.838 --> 01:03:35.203
[SPEAKER_06]: Study the history of the game, and, you know, like, what guys did for the game?
01:03:35.403 --> 01:03:38.567
[SPEAKER_06]: And I'm like, there was some historic guys, man.
01:03:38.647 --> 01:03:42.451
[SPEAKER_06]: I bet you some of them dolphin players, you all to take a poll, go around and ask them.
01:03:42.471 --> 01:03:44.854
[SPEAKER_06]: Do y'all know who the killer B defense was?
01:03:45.323 --> 01:03:54.134
[SPEAKER_06]: They probably tell you that they have no idea, well, that's probably to get us probably tell you they're probably tell you, oh, they were the Denver Bronco.
01:03:55.256 --> 01:03:56.717
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't get us started on that one.
01:03:56.978 --> 01:03:59.701
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, you know, and it's probably only no damn arena for Mason Turer.
01:03:59.942 --> 01:04:00.983
[SPEAKER_07]: You know what I mean?
01:04:01.003 --> 01:04:03.266
[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that's exactly the vaccine of building all the time.
01:04:03.286 --> 01:04:04.527
[SPEAKER_02]: He's in the building every day, right?
01:04:04.648 --> 01:04:07.271
[SPEAKER_07]: Uncle Dan out they call the Dan's up there all the time.
01:04:07.291 --> 01:04:08.192
[SPEAKER_07]: So, good.
01:04:08.425 --> 01:04:09.146
[SPEAKER_07]: Alright, we're Robert.
01:04:09.166 --> 01:04:12.112
[SPEAKER_07]: You know, we wrap up each episode, man, with two fun segments.
01:04:12.914 --> 01:04:15.619
[SPEAKER_07]: We'd like to call the first one to fish tank numerology.
01:04:16.120 --> 01:04:21.210
[SPEAKER_07]: So you wore number 55 in Dallas and in St. Louis and 52 in Miami.
01:04:21.731 --> 01:04:23.554
[SPEAKER_07]: What's the story behind those numbers?
01:04:25.177 --> 01:04:28.223
[SPEAKER_06]: Man, I wanted to be just completely different.
01:04:28.574 --> 01:04:31.100
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, I didn't want to wear a fifth of five.
01:04:31.120 --> 01:04:32.684
[SPEAKER_06]: I just it was no significance.
01:04:32.844 --> 01:04:40.121
[SPEAKER_06]: Obviously, I wasn't fifth to two, but me and age, but it was it was it was it was just that man.
01:04:41.223 --> 01:04:44.952
[SPEAKER_06]: I wanted to just be different man.
01:04:45.032 --> 01:04:46.876
[SPEAKER_06]: I was turning over a new leaf man.
01:04:47.017 --> 01:04:47.157
[SPEAKER_06]: I
01:04:47.693 --> 01:04:53.519
[SPEAKER_06]: You know, the year leading up to plan for the dolphins, I took Taekwondo.
01:04:53.539 --> 01:04:54.841
[SPEAKER_06]: I was just doing stuff different.
01:04:54.881 --> 01:04:57.644
[SPEAKER_06]: It was my first time doing something like that.
01:04:57.844 --> 01:05:06.734
[SPEAKER_06]: And I felt like at that time, a brother-in-law Jeff Blake, he's like, man, you need to do something like Taekwondo, get your body loose, flexible.
01:05:07.315 --> 01:05:09.177
[SPEAKER_06]: I think that'll help you play better.
01:05:09.217 --> 01:05:10.778
[SPEAKER_06]: So I appreciate him for that.
01:05:10.999 --> 01:05:16.705
[SPEAKER_06]: And I was just changing everything, and changing how I do stuff.
01:05:17.005 --> 01:05:23.150
[SPEAKER_06]: any jewelry, so the whole time I was in Miami, I had a necklace on and I never took it off.
01:05:23.751 --> 01:05:25.452
[SPEAKER_06]: I never took the necklace off.
01:05:25.472 --> 01:05:27.894
[SPEAKER_06]: That necklace did have 55 up under it.
01:05:28.314 --> 01:05:32.318
[SPEAKER_06]: It was a star with 55, and I wouldn't have that.
01:05:32.338 --> 01:05:35.420
[SPEAKER_03]: But the number one, oh, she didn't even acknowledge that out of here.
01:05:35.460 --> 01:05:36.742
[SPEAKER_03]: That's what she did.
01:05:36.762 --> 01:05:37.682
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
01:05:37.702 --> 01:05:38.463
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah.
01:05:38.903 --> 01:05:46.810
[SPEAKER_06]: So there was no significance behind it, just that I wanted to change and be different.
01:05:47.380 --> 01:05:49.923
[SPEAKER_02]: I like it and all new brand new Robert Jones.
01:05:50.044 --> 01:05:52.467
[SPEAKER_02]: We like the version of Robert Jones that we got for sure.
01:05:52.487 --> 01:06:06.486
[SPEAKER_06]: We love the results that you had in Dallas, but we like the version of Robert Jones to bring a championship could your Robert could bring no damn championship down and I was trying to do we started this thing off by saying it like this and hit.
01:06:06.466 --> 01:06:07.669
[SPEAKER_06]: I did my part.
01:06:07.949 --> 01:06:24.829
[SPEAKER_02]: I did my part right there with no doubt he's like you remember what you were saying about I will say this I got to defend my partner as much as I like to give him a hard time in 98 all he did was lead the league in
01:06:24.809 --> 01:06:32.164
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, our final segment of the fish tank is the fish tank two-minute drill So robber we're putting two minutes on the clock.
01:06:32.184 --> 01:06:35.270
[SPEAKER_02]: This is our fast-paced segment We've got a few questions for you.
01:06:35.290 --> 01:06:40.921
[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully you have some fun with them and then we'll let you get back to that family Okay, he's a wow they get a little nervous.
01:06:40.961 --> 01:06:41.202
[SPEAKER_02]: Come on.
01:06:41.222 --> 01:06:41.803
[SPEAKER_02]: You're lying back.
01:06:41.863 --> 01:06:44.087
[SPEAKER_02]: Are you talking to us about this?
01:06:44.107 --> 01:06:45.410
[SPEAKER_07]: All right, R.J. Ready?
01:06:45.751 --> 01:06:46.412
[SPEAKER_07]: Let's yeah
01:06:47.185 --> 01:06:53.796
[SPEAKER_07]: Okay, earlier you mentioned that you spent a year at Fort Union Military Academy between high school and East Carolina.
01:06:54.256 --> 01:06:58.563
[SPEAKER_07]: You were not the only person associated with the dolphins to have a tenant, Fort Union.
01:06:58.864 --> 01:07:06.315
[SPEAKER_07]: Can you name the current high-ranking dolphins official who also was a Fort Union Blue Devil?
01:07:07.377 --> 01:07:07.978
[SPEAKER_06]: I can't.
01:07:08.785 --> 01:07:12.148
[SPEAKER_07]: I can't know juice or our GM right now down there.
01:07:12.168 --> 01:07:16.853
[SPEAKER_07]: Excilivan is also a fork union blue devil.
01:07:17.614 --> 01:07:19.095
[SPEAKER_07]: Hey, tell him to call me, man.
01:07:19.596 --> 01:07:22.098
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, we are just doing that.
01:07:22.159 --> 01:07:28.105
[SPEAKER_06]: I got to tell him to call me, man, because I got a line.
01:07:28.125 --> 01:07:30.707
[SPEAKER_06]: I got a linebacker that can come play for him.
01:07:31.268 --> 01:07:33.510
[SPEAKER_06]: And I got to see what they can come play for.
01:07:33.490 --> 01:07:35.193
[SPEAKER_02]: I bet you can have that you got a few.
01:07:35.373 --> 01:07:36.895
[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder what your last thing is, too.
01:07:37.155 --> 01:07:44.206
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, John Eric Sullivan, his father Jerry Sullivan was a long time football coach both at the college and professional level.
01:07:44.807 --> 01:07:47.070
[SPEAKER_02]: And I looked you guys never crossed over.
01:07:47.110 --> 01:07:48.633
[SPEAKER_02]: But I guess he said his grades dipped.
01:07:48.673 --> 01:07:50.555
[SPEAKER_02]: And his dad said you're going to Fort Union.
01:07:50.696 --> 01:07:52.258
[SPEAKER_02]: He did that.
01:07:52.238 --> 01:07:56.902
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, speaking of these, speaking of of some of these players, you told them that you might have for them.
01:07:57.663 --> 01:08:04.269
[SPEAKER_02]: Remarkably, you are three sons, Zay, Caleb, and Levi all played in the national football league, right?
01:08:04.729 --> 01:08:11.736
[SPEAKER_02]: But you are not the only former Miami Dolphin to have three sons go on to play in the league.
01:08:12.076 --> 01:08:15.219
[SPEAKER_02]: And so you just gave us a great history lesson, a Miami Dolphin football.
01:08:15.559 --> 01:08:22.245
[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder if you can name the other former dolphin who had three boys all played in the national football league.
01:08:22.225 --> 01:08:40.251
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm trying to keep up, I know all I can have through that crew, I know Jason Taylor got a sign plan, but he does have one, yeah, he does have one, it's going to be a long time if he if all three are going to make it, it's going to be a long time since Jordan's only four, but but I
01:08:41.092 --> 01:08:49.046
[SPEAKER_02]: But so Feral Edmunds, the tight end for the, for the, for the Dolphins, so for main admins, the linebacker I wonder if he played with yours, did he play with, for the bills?
01:08:49.366 --> 01:08:51.871
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, they might have even been, yeah, to main did.
01:08:51.931 --> 01:08:52.912
[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, him and Z.
01:08:53.073 --> 01:08:54.816
[SPEAKER_02]: They were team members, so there you go.
01:08:55.277 --> 01:08:58.442
[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, yep, so yeah, Feral had three, all right.
01:08:58.422 --> 01:09:00.424
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, we won't be as difficult after this.
01:09:01.345 --> 01:09:10.655
